DescriptionThe vehicle has two main beam headlamps in the light cluster. The main beam headlamps are switched on by the steering column switch unit:when the dipped beam headlamps are on, by pressing the lever towards the dashboard (stable mode)in 'flash' mode, by pulling the lever towards the steering wheel (unstable mode)The relay for switching on the dipped headlamps is managed by the Body Computer: the energizing of the relay is activated by the go ahead signals with the ignition key in the ON position (INT) and by the specific signal from the steering column switch unit. The activation and/or deactivation information is sent via the CAN: in this way the main beam warning light in the instrument panel is also switched on. The Body Computer also manages the 'dipped headlampa maintenence' function: when the main beam headlamps are on, the Body Computer keeps the dipped headlamps on. 3023191SeeE2011DIPPED HEADLAMPS
Functional description The main beam headlamps activation signal is sent to pin 33 of connector B of the Body Computer M1 from the steering column switch unit H5 . The 'ignition ON' signal (INT) for the switch H1 reaches the underdashboard control unit B2 at pin 11 of connector H and from there moves on to the Body Computer M1 (pin 9 of connector F). The Body Computer M1 controls the supply to the main beam headlamps by sending an earth signal to the engine compartment control unit B1 - from pin 9 of connector A of M1 - which energizes the relay T2: this supplies the dipped headlamps F10 (left) and F11 (right). Each circuit is protected by a control unit B1 fuse: F15 for the left headlamp and F14 for the right one. The Body Computer M1 is connected, via the CAN line, to the instrument panel E50 to manage the main beam headlamps warning light.

5530B18

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer, electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour: a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery; a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For further details, see DESCRIPTION ANDOPERATION - 5580.768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360'). Depending on the voltage values measured, which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows:If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery (see op.). 5530B10).If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery (see op. 5530B14).If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient. If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water, taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768

Prepare the vehiclecomplete with spare wheel, tools, fluids, fuel reserve and driveron board. Check that the tyre inflation pressureis correct.Place the headlamp alignment switch inposition '0'.Position the vehicle on a flat surface, perpendicular to a screen or an opaque surface, 10 metres away, which contains the following lines. 1. V - V: vertical line corresponding to the trace of the planeof symmetry of the vehicle.2. C - C: traces of the vertical planes passing through the referencecentres of the light clusters.3. HC - HC: horizontal line corresponding to the height from theground of the reference centres for the light clusters. 4. AC - AC: horizontal line 10 cm below the HC - HC line.5.
