DescriptionThe lighting of the luggage compartmentis timed according to a logic managed by the integrated servicescontrol unit, on the right hand side, under the dashboard:When the boot is opened, a light is turnedon for a timed interval of 20 minutes (this function ensures thatthe battery does not go flat if the car is left with the boot open).Timer operation is suspended when the bootis closed.A light inside the glove compartment isturned on - only with the ignition turned to MAR - when the compartmentis opened, and goes off when the compartment is closed.The light under the sunblind is turned on- only with the ignition turned to MAR (on) - when a switch on theblind is turned on.Two fuses protect the integrated servicecontrol unit direct and ignition-operated supply lines.The circuit for the glove compartment lightis protected by the fuse for the supplies controlled by the ignition,at the side of the junction unit.Numerous other interior instrument and controllights are present. These are turned on when the side lights areturned on. The lines are described and illustrated in the relevantcomponent wiring diagrams.
Functional description The boot opening switch I11 sendsan earth signal, with the boot open, to the integrated servicescontrol unit M40 (pin 14 of connector C) and, at the same time,to the boot light G40 and the light on the tail-gate G41. . The supply for the control unit M40 iscontrolled by the ignition (INT) by the line for fuse F1 ofthe junction unit B1 (pin 7 of connector B) and directlyfrom the battery (maxifuse J/B2 of B99 ) via fuse F8 ofjunction unit B1 (pin 8 of connector B). When the signal that the boot is open arrives,the control unit M40 sends the timed supply signal, frompin 2 of connector C, which operates the boot light G40 andtail-gate light G41 . The supply for the glove compartment light G30 ignition-operated(INT/A) from the line protected by fuse F6 of additionalfuse box B98 , and is activated by an earth signal from theglove compartment switch I15 . Sun visor lights G31 and G32 arecontrolled by the ignition (INT) by the line for fuse F1 ofthe junction unit B1 and is activated by the switch insidethe actual light.

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer,electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour:a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery;a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For more details 3238420See subassembly5530 CURRENT GENERATOR . 768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360').Depending on the voltage values measured,which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows: If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery ( 32384295530B10battery - r+r ). If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery ( 32384305530B14battery - recharge ). If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient.If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water,taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768
