DESCRIPTION - PETROL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT - Fiat 500 1.2 8v
An electronic control system supervises and governs all engine parameters to optimise performance and fuel consumption by means of a real-time response to different service conditions.The system is managed by a single control unit which controls both ignition and injection.Depending on the signals received from numerous sensors, the control unit controls the injectors connected to it, managing the following systems:fuel supply;air supply;accelerator pedal;engine cooling;combustion control - Lambda sensors;control of exhaust with catalytic converter;fuel vapour recirculation.
The throttle body is also controlled electronically by the control unit: throttle opening is calculated in accordance with specific software mapped inside the engine control unit. This system does away with the need for a mechanical link between accelerator pedal and throttle body.Thanks to the electronic management described above, this engine conforms to the most recent emission control regulations (EURO 4).For more details,The system is also controlled by dedicated relays in the engine compartment junction control unit. Lines supplying the control unit and various system components (sensors and actuators) are protected by dedicated fuses that are also located inside the engine compartment junction unit.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION - PETROL ENGINES ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT - Fiat 500 1.2 8v
Engine management control unit M010 controls and governs the entire electronic ignition and injection system.The control unit M010 is supplied directly by the battery at pin 1 of connector A via a line protected by fuse F18 of the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 5 of connector B).The ignition-operated power supply (15/54) arrives via a line protected by fuse F16 of the engine compartment junction unit B001(pin 12 of connector B) at pin 16 of connector A of M010 .Pins 5, 6, 21 and 22 of connector B of M10 are connected to engine earth C040A. A further injection control unit earth C060 is connected to the actual control unit casing (connector C).The main injection relay T09 of junction unit B001 controls the entire system: the coil, supplied by the ignition-controlled line protected by fuse F16 of B001, is energized by an earth signal coming from pin 17 of connector A of control unit M010 and sends a power supply:to pins 47 and 48 of connector A of the control unit via a line protected by fuse F17 of B001 (pin 61 of connector B);to the fuel vapour recovery solenoid valve L010, to the Lambda sensor resistances on the pre-catalytic converter K015 on the catalytic converter K017 (pin 4), to the phase transformer solenoid K098 and to pin 4 of connector B of the engine management control unit M010, via the line protected by fuse F11 of B001 (pin 60 of connector B);to pin 1 of coil unit A030 and to the injectors N070, via the line protected by fuse F22 of junction unit B001 (pin 62 of connector B).
The fuel pump relay T17 for B001 receives a direct battery supply via the line for fuse F21 of the actual junction unit B001.The coil, connected to the left front earth C010 via pin 50 of connector B of B001, is energized through a positive signal coming from pin 56 of connector A of control unit M010 and provides a power supply for the fuel pump N040.There is no inertia switch on this vehicle; instead, the fuel cut off function is managed by the air bag control unit which, after having detected an impact, sends the FPS signal (Fire Prevention System) to the network which interrupts the flow of fuel via the engine management control unit M010. This condition is also signalled at the instrument panel E050 via the general failure warning light and a dediacted message in the display.To carry out the rearming procedure and restore the operation of the vehicle,The engine management control unit M010 receives signals from the various sensors in order to control all engine service parameters.The engine rpm sensor K046 provides engine rpm information via a frequency signal sent to pins 9 and 23 of connector B of control unit M010.Timing sensor K047 is supplied from pin 13 of connector B of control unit M110; it receives a reference earth from pin 7 of connector B, and sends a frequency signal corresponding to the phase to pin 24 of connector B of the control unit.The air pressure/temperature sensor K044 also receives a power supply and reference earth from pins 13 and 7 of connector B of control unit M010 respectively; sensor K044 sends signals corresponding to the air temperature and pressure to pins 63 and 61 respectively of connector B of the control unit.The phase transformer solenoid K098 is controlled by a duty cycle from pin 2 of connector B of control unit M010.Engine coolant sensor/sender unit K036 receives a reference earth from pin 36 of connector B of control unit M010 and sends a signal proportional to engine coolant temperature to pin 45 of the control unit.The Lambda sensor on the pre-catalyzer K015 and the one on the catalyzer K017 provide the control unit M010 with information concerning the correct composition of the air-fuel mixture.The sensor K015 (pin 1) sends a signal to pin 43 of connector B of the control unit, while pin 60 provides a reference earth (pin 2): these two signals are very low intensity and are thus appropriately shielded. Sensor K015 is heated by a resistance to ensure it works efficiently even when cold: the resistance is supplied by main relay T09, whilst pin 32 of connector B of engine control unit M010 provides the reference earth for the sensor (pin 3).The sensor K017 (pin 1) sends a signal to pin 42 of connector B of the control unit, while pin 58 provides a reference earth (pin 2): these two signals are very low intensity and are thus appropriately shielded. Sensor K017 is heated by a resistance to ensure it works efficiently even when cold. the resistance is supplied by main relay T09, whilst pin 64 of connector B of engine control unit M010 provides the reference earth for the sensor (pin 3).The detonation sensor K050 provides information, via frequency signals, about the onset of detonation in the combustion chamber; it sends two signals to pins 41 and 48 of connector B of M010. These signals are also suitably screened.Accelerator pedal K055 contains two integral potentiometers (a main one and a safety one). The former receives power and earth signals from pins 2 and 45 of connector A of M10 and sends a corresponding signal to pin 51 of the same connector. The latter receives power and earth signals from pins 3 and 15 of connector B of M010 and sends a corresponding signal to pin 38 of the same connector.The control unit M10 receives - at pin 55 of connector A - a signal from the minimum engine oil pressure sensor K030.Pin 52 of connector A of control unit M010 receives an NA signal from the switch on brake pedal I030, provided by an ignition-controlled supply (INT) via a line protected by fuse F37 of the Body Computer M001. The latter receives the same signal at pin 27 of connector B.At pin 34 of connector B, the Body Computer M001 receives an NC signal from the switch on brake pedal I030, provided by an ignition-controlled supply (INT) via a line protected by fuse F51 of the Body Computer. The latter forwards this signal to the control unit M010 via the C-CAN.At pin 32 of connector A, the control unit M010 receives the signal coming from the clutch pedal switch I031; it also receives an ignition-controlled supply (INT) from fuse F51 of the Body Computer M001 (pin 25 of connector C).At pin 26 of connector A, the control unit M010 receives the signal coming from the reversing switch I020; the latter receives an ignition-controlled supply (15/54) via the line protected by fuse F87 of junction unit B001 (pin 14 of connector B).The control unit M010 controls the opening of the injectors N70, through the dedicated signals sent from pins 50 (cyl. A), 34 (cyl. B), 49 (cyl. C) and 33 (cyl. D) of connector B of M010. The injectors N70 receive a power supply to enable the opening of the main relay T09 of B001 .Control unit M010 also controls the coils A030 via control signals for the primary winding of the coil, while the secondary winding sends a pulse to the spark plugs.Control unit M010 is connected to the coils A030 from pins 17 (pin 2, cyl. A), 19 (pin 3, cyl. B), 3 (pin 4, cyl. C) and 1 (pin 5, cyl. D) of connector B.The primary windings of coils A030 receive a power supply to enable opening of main relay T09 of junction unit B001 . Pin 1 of A030 is connected to the earth on the engine C040B.Throttle body actuator N075 is equipped with two integral potentiometers connected in parallel: this controls the throttle opening by means of a step motor.The motor receives a power supply and earth respectively from pins 52 and 57 of connector B of M010. Pin 15 of connector B of M010 sends power to both potentiometers, while pin 35 sends an earth signal to the potentiometers; pins 30 and 44 of the same connector receive signals that reach throttle body actuator N075The fuel vapour recovery solenoid valve L010 allows the flow of fuel vapours to the engine intake where they are added to the mixture entering the combustion chamber. Valve L010, supplied by the main relay T09 of B001, is opened by the control unit when the engine is operating in load conditions by means of a signal from pin 51 of connector B of M010.The control unit M010 (pins 49 and 50 of connector A) is connected, via the C-CAN, to the Body Computer M001 (pins 45 and 44 of connector B) and to the other network nodes; information is sent, via this connection, for the management of the indicators and warning lights in the instrument panel E050, in particular for the management of:engine coolant overheating warning light and gauge;rev counter;minimum engine oil pressure warning light;EOBD failure warning light;"general failure" warning light valid for the failure of the engine oil pressure sensor or the intervention of the FPS (Fire Prevention System) function.
The control unit M010 receives a speedometer signal generated by the braking system control unit M051 via the C-CAN.It is also connected:from pins 59 and 63 of connector A for managing the engine cooling fan;
from pin 19 of connector A, with the alternator A010 for the management of the insufficient battery recharging/alternator failure (D+) signal;
from pins 5 and 62 of connector A for managing the compressor engagement function.
