DescriptionThe gauges and warning lights which form the instrument panel are grouped in a single instrument containing:electronic speedometertotal mileage counter/trip recorderdigital clockpetrol gauge, with reserve warning lightmethane gauge, with reserve warning lightwarning lightsThe speedometer signal comes from the sensor on the gearbox, this signal is 'repeated' for other functions which require the information.The milometer consists of an LCD which alternately shows the total and trip mileage.The clock is digital and is adjusted through the two buttons in the centre/lower part of the instrument marked 'h' and 'min'.The fuel level is displayed by means of electronic circuitry inside the module which operates the gauge and the reserve warning light (when the gauge is at 1/8 of its travel). The internal logic 'damps' the signal avoiding fluctuations.The methane level is displayed via electronic circuitry inside the actual module which operates the 6 green LEDs proportionally to the pressure measured in the methane circuit. A seventh, amber coloured, LED indicates the 'reserve'.The internal logic 'dampens' the signal, preventing fluctuations (e.g. the reading changes when the signal persists for at least 250 msec.).768

767The reserve warning light comes on when the last of the green LEDs is still on: the last green LED switching off, on the other hand, means that the methane is completely used up and the system automatically switches over to running on petrol with the appropriate warning light coming on.

Functional description The supply controlled by the ignition (INT) for the instrument E50 reaches pin 2 of connector A from the line protected by fuse F1 of the junction unit B1 . Pins 3 and 4 of connector A are earthed. The instrument E50 is also supplied directly by the battery - pin 1 of connector A - via the line for the maxifuse J/B1of B5 protected by fuse F10 of the junction unit B1 (supply for internal clock). Pins 4 and 5 of connector B receive signals coming from the fuel gauge, located in the electric pump unit N40 : these signals, processed by the internal electronic device, operate the fuel gauge and the reserve warning light. The methane pressure sensor K54 , located on the adjustment solenoid valve, receives a reference earth and supply from the engine management control unit M10 - pins 30 and 33 - and sends a signal proportional to the pressure of the methane to the control unit M10 - pin 46 and to the instrument E50 pin 11 of connector B. This signal, processed by the electronic device inside the instrument, operates the (green) indication LEDs and the (amber) reserve one. Insufficient engine oil pressure is signalled to pin 2 of connector C from the earth signal coming from the sensor K30 . The signal from the sensor K20 . reaches pin 5 of connector C and lights up the brake pad wear warning light. Signals from handbrake switch I40 and brake fluid level sensor K25 . reach pin 8 of connector B and pin 13 of connector C for E50 , respectively and light up the insufficient brake fluid level/handbrake warning light. The same warning light is on - together with the ABS failure warning light - if the ABS control unit detects problems involving the EBD function ( 2889551SeeE7020ABS ). The speedometer sensor K84 , located on the gearbox, sends signals to the instrument panel E50 to pins 8 and 9 of connector C: these signals, processed by the internal electronic device, operate the vehicle speed indicator, the milometer and the output is available: from pin 10 of connector C for the engine management control unit ( 2889373SeeE5030PETROL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT ), from pin 3 of connector B for the navigation system control unit ( 2889304SeeE4090NAVIGATOR ).
