DescriptionThe rear window heater element, door mirror demister coils and the windscreen heater element absorb a considerable amount of energy. They must therefore be turned off once they have been working for a certain period of time.The engagement of the resistances for defrosting the rearscreen and the external rear view mirrors is controlled, in a timed fashion, by the special button, in the switch unit in the centre of the dashboard; the button, which is dimly lit when the ignition is switched on, comes on brightly when the heated rear windscreen is switched on.The defrosting circuit is protected by a special fuse and controlled by a specific relay located in the junction box.
Functional description The heated rear windscreen relay R3 , located in the junction unit B1 , controls the simultaneous activation of the demisting of both the rear windscreen P55 and the external rear view mirrors P60 and P61 . The relay R3 is supplied by the direct line from the battery through the fuse F11 - always for B1 - and the maxifuse J/B1 for B5 . The coil for the relay R3 is energized by the line controlled by the ignition (INT/A) and is protected by fuse B26 . By pressing the demisting button, an earth signal is sent from the unit H90 which, in addition to giving a command to the coil for R3 , activates the switching on of the LED inside the actual control unit. The electronics inside unit H90 manage the demisting of the rear windscreen, in a timed fashion, removing the earth from the control button. Once energized, the relay R3 controls the rearscreen P55 and protects the mirrors through another protective fuse ( B16 ). The switch control unit H90 has an ignition-operated supply (INT/A) from the line of fuse B27 which lights up the LEDs in the actual switch unit.
