DescriptionThe vehicle is fitted with an autonomous additional heater in case the passenger compartment needs to be heated more quickly, with the engine running, if the climatic conditions are particularly harsh.The system basically consists of:a heater unit fixed to the front suspension crossmember and the underbody floor panelan electric fuel pump fixed to the underbody near the fuel tankan outside air temperature sensor positioned under the left front light clusteran exhaust pipe connected directly to the heater unitAn electronic control unit integrated in the unit controls the switching on, the maintenance and the switching off of the heater. The ignition of the mixture is guaranteed by a spark plug, the combustion is ensured by the air coming from a special fan and the fuel coming from an electric metering pump. The heat produced in the combustion chamber is surrendered to the engine coolant which comes into contact with it. The exhaust gases are expelled through a special exhaust pipe. Functional description The additional heater unit is connected to the vehicle electrical system through connector D22. This connector, pin 2, receives a direct supply through the line protected by the maxifuse B37, which also supplies the diesel pre-heating system and by a specific fuse B38; pin 3 is earthed. Pin 1 of D22 is connected to the outside air temperature sensor K79 which, in turn, receives the reference supply from the alternator (D+ pin signal): in this way the signal for the outside temperature is only sent to the additional heater control unit if the engine is running. The additional heater control unit is equipped with an autodiagnostic system which can be used: by connecting the unit to connector R10: it receives signals from pin 4 of D22 via the diagnostic line.
