This vehicle is equipped with a CAN (Controller Area Network) system of electrical connections: it involves a software and hardware solution which is designed to manage the resources on the vehicle efficiently allowing:the sharing of information between the various electronic units;the intergration of several electronic units through one network;a high network information exchange speed;advantages in economic terms because there is a considerable reduction in the wiring/connectors inside the vehicle;superior standards in terms of quality and reliability.The advantage of using a CAN system stems from the fact that communication takes place between numerous control units and consequently the number of signals to be managed is very high.For this reason the signals travel on a CAN type serial Bus where one wire is high level (H) and the other low level (L); these signals on the CAN Bus are differential types, i.e. the value assigned to the bit is represented by the difference between the CAN-H and CAN-L voltage levels.The different electronic units which make up the system, known as network nodes, are connected to the CAN by means of communication interfaces known as transreceivers; these connection interfaces, integrated in the electronic units, constitute the gate for sending/reading the information at the CAN or at the serial lines.The exchange of information at CAN type serial lines is only possible using a transmission protocol which is the collection of rules that allow communication between two or more nodes by means of the exchange of information or "data packages".The main element of the network is the body computer.The Body Computer Node is given the task of "waking up" the network when the ignition key is in position M.The body computer also carries out the functions of checking the network which make it possible to provide information on:the network activities status;the functional failure status of the individual electronic units (nodes);a possible CAN fault.The structure for this vehicle consists of four communication networks which connect nodes belonging to the different areas (vehicle dynamic control and bodywork functions) and a certain number of complementary serial lines used for diagnosis and other specific functions:a CAN for dynamic vehicle control (high speed),a VAN known as the VAN CONF network which connects the Body Computer to the information or comfort equipment.a master/slave type VAN network divided into two sub sectors also known as the VAN CAR1 and VAN CAR2 networks.The fault diagnosis of the nodes connected to the VAN takes place "passing through" the Body Computer, whilst the vehicle dynamic control network involves the special K lines.Power is distributed via the junction units and/or fuses boxes. These are connected to control elements (relays and static actuators) to ensure maximum electrical protection and minimum complexity.

The body computer node M001 supplies the various electronic control units connected to it via the CAN.The body computer node receives a direct battery supply at pins 1 and 2 connector E.the power supply is distributed to the various relays, housed in the control unit, which are operated directly by the actual body computer.The CAN is divided into CAN, VAN CAR1, VAN CAR2, VAN CONF.The VAN CAR2 network suppliesthe front electric seat adjustment relays J139 and J140, the child lock relay J136, the sliding side door node M171 (pin 4 connector A), the seat/mirrors with memory control unit M076 (pin A7, connector A), the sliding door control switches I133, (134, I135 and I136 and the sun roof motors N155, N156 and N036 (pin 5) from pin 3 connector F through a line protected by fuse F01 and a specific relay;the driver''s door control unit M066 (pin 1 connector A) and the passenger door control unit M067 (pin 1 connector A) from pin 11, connector F through a line protected by fuse F04 and a specific relay;the alarm control unit M30 (pin 6) from pin 5 connector A.The body computer node M001 connections to the VAN CAR2 are:pins 21 and 23 connector L to the driver''s door control unit M066 (pins 14 and 3 connector A);pins 24 and 26 connector L to the passenger door control unit M067 (pins 3 and 14 connector A);pins 11 and 13 connector I to the centre sun roof motor N155 (pins 4 and 10), to the rear sun roof motor N156 (pins 4 and 10) and to the front sun roof motor N036 (pins 4 and 10);pins 21 and 23 connector I to the seats/mirrors with memory control unit M076 (pins C5 and A5 connector A);pins 24 and 26 connector I to the sliding side door node M171 (pins 11 and 13 connector A);the alarm control unit M30 (pins 10 and 12) from pins 4, 6 connector A.The VAN CAR1 network suppliesthe steering wheel node control unit M093 (pin 6 connector A) and the Air Bag control unit M060 (pin 37) from pin 4 connector F through a line protected by fuse F16 and a specific relay;the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 9 connector E) and the additive control node M180, pin 3 from pin 3 connector B through a line protected by fuse F16 and a specific relay.The body computer node M001 connections to the VAN CAR1 are:pins 8 and 40 connector L to the steering wheel node control unit M093 (pins 1 and 3 connector A);pins 28 and 30 connector L to the Air Bag control unit M060 (pins 33 and 30);pins 6 and 8 connector M to the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pins 1 and 5 connector E);pins 25, 27 connector M to the additive control node M180, pins 14 and 15.The VAN CONF network suppliesthe radio P020 (pin 4 connector A or, for "CONNECT Nav +" versions, pin 6 connector D), from pin 3 connector D through a line protected by fuse F20 and a specific relay;the warning lights and milometer control unit M140 (pin 4), the climate control system control unit M070 (pin 15 connector A), the instrument panel E050 (pin 13) and the multifunction screen M172 (pin 2) from pin 6 connector D through a line protected by fuse F24 and a specific relay;the parking control unit M084, pin 1 from pin 3 connector H through a line protected by fuse F24 and a specific relay.The body computer node M001 connections to the VAN CONF are:pins 8 and 10 connector D to the control unit M070 (pins 8 and 14 connector A) and to the instrument panel E050 (pins 17 and 23);The instrument panel node E050 is also connected from pins 22 and 16 to the milometer warning lights node M140 (pins 2 and 5) and from pins 18 and 24 it is connected to the multifunction screen M172 (at pins 6 and 4); it is connected to pins 3, 2 connector A of the radio P020.On "CONNECT Nav +" versions, the multifunction screen node M172 is connected from pins 4 and 6 to the radio P020, pins 5 and 12 of connector A and the radio P020, in turn, is connected from pins 2 and 5 of connector D to the milometer warning lights node M140, from pins 3 and 6.pins 11, 13 connector L to the parking control unit M084, pins 5 and 14.The body computer node M001 connections to the CAN (dynamic control network) are:pin 2 connector M (HIGH CAN) to the engine management control unit M010 (pin A4 connector A) "passing through" the ABS control unit M050 (pin 24 - pin 35 connector A) and, if fitted "passing through" the automatic transmission control unit M055 (pins 30 - pin 39).pin 4 connector M (LOW CAN) to the engine management control unit M010 (pin A3 connector A) "passing through" the ABS control unit M050 (pin 40 - pin 19 connector A) and, if fitted "passing through" the automatic transmission control unit M055 (pins 29 - pin 38).
