This device facilitates the parking stage: when reverse is engaged, it indicates the approach of an obstacle that could be outsid the driver''s visual range. The system consists of four ultrasound sensors located inside the bumpers that send given signals to a specific control unit: once processed, the control unit is able to calculate the distance from possible obstacles and communicate it by means of a speaker, emitting an intermittent sound signal at a frequency proportional to the distance from the detected obstacle. When the calculated distance is less than 25 [cm], the sound emitted becomes acute and constant. If the distance of the obstacle detected increases, or if the driver disengages reverse gear, the sound stops. The control unit is activated with reverse gear engaged:If the distance of the obstacle detected remains constant, the sound stops after about 3 seconds. The signal that reverse gear is engaged is managed by the body computer node which sends this information to the parking sensor control unit via the CAN.767 The operation of the parking sensors is automatically deactivated when the trailer is electrically connected. The sensors are automatically reactivated when the trailer is disconnected.
When reverse is engaged, a switch I020 (pin 1) closes its internal contact and sends an earth signal to engine compartment control unit B001 (pin 13 connector F).On versions with automatic transmission, switch I020 is not present: the same function is performed by a contact "R" of automatic transmission solenoid unit L050 that is connected to pin 15 of connector F of B001 from pin A1.Control unit B001 (pins 11 and 12 connector F) communicates reverse engagement via the CAN line to body computer M001 (pins 27 and 25 connector E respectively), which takes action to:- turn on the reversing lights from pins 15 and 16 of connector H;- supply parking sensor M084 at pin 10 of connector A via a line protected by fuse F12 from pin 11 of connector F.If a trailer is connected, body computer node M001 (pins 37 and 39 connector I) receive a connection signal from trailer service control unit and inhibit (pins 36 and 38 connector I) parking sensor M084 (pins 5 aned 14 connector A).Control unit M084 receives signals from parking sensor K097 at connector B. In particular:- pins 2 of the sensors are connected to pins 9, 10, 3 and 4;- pins 1 to pin 8;- pins 3 to pin 2.The reverse engagement and obstacle detection buzzer is built into the system.
