The vehicle is equipped with an automatically operated climate control system for managing the temperature, air flow rate, distribution and recirculation which is available in two versions:automatic system known as dual zone, with left/right different temperatures for the first and second rows of seats;automatic system known as multi zone with additional rear fans which can be operated from the second row to alter the air flow rate to the front vents in the second and third rows.The control unit manages the operation of the system by controlling:air temperature at the vents;air distribution at the vents;fan speed (continuous variation);compressor engagement (air refrigeration circuit);air recirculation engagement;the MAX-DEF rapid defrosting function (which consists of a collection of measures which make it possible to demist both the windscreen and the rearscreen quickly);The control unit sets the above parameters so that temperature of the passenger compartment is adjusted to the desired temperature. The system controls are located on the outside of the container which houses the control unit.The following parameters/functions can be altered manually:fan speed;distribution arrangement;compressor disabling;defrosting/demisting:recirculation.The control unit acquires information on the temperature and climate conditions both inside and outside the vehicle by means of special sensors:outside temperature sensor, located on the passenger door mirror: the sensor value is acquired by the controls on the door and is suitably "filtered"; it is then sent, via the CAN, to the climate control system control unit;lower mixed air temperature sensor;upper mixed air sensor;inside temperature sensors;solar sensor, which measures the sun rays on the windscreen;According to the calculations made, it sets the passenger compartment air intake speed through the fan motor and the temperature by means of two mixture actuators (one for the right side of the passenger compartment and one for the left side); it also sets the distributions of the flows through another actuator and, lastly, another actuator is responsible for the inside/outside air recirculation function.

On versions which have additional rear fans N146 and N147, pin 1 receives a power supply from the engine compartment junction unit B001, pin 8 connector F, from a line protected by fuse F18 and governed by a specific relay, both housed inside the junction unit. They are earthed at pin 3.The electric motors N146 and N147 are operated by control unit M070, pin 4,5 connector A.The command is supplied by selectors H125 and H126: they receive a power supply for switching on the built-in warning light, at pin 1, from the body computer node M001, pin 12 connector F, through the line protected by fuse F12 and governed by a specific relay, located in the junction unit.They are supplied at pin 5 by control unit M070, pin 7 connector A. From pin 6, they send control signals for the rear fans to control unit M070, pin 6, 13 connector A.The sensor which measures the outside temperature is located on the passenger door mirror P061: the sensor is connected to the control unit on the door M066 and from there it sends information to control unit M070 via the CAN.Control unit M070 communicates other information (heated rear windscreen on, air conditioning on) from pins 1, 2, 3 to the instrument panel E050 to pins 5, 9 and 2 and from there to the various displays.The diesel version signal is sent to pin 10 of the instrument panel E050 from pin 18 connector A of M070.Climate control unit M070 receives a supply direct from the battery at pin 11, connector A from body computer node M001, pin 7 connector D from the line protected by fuse F12 and managed by a specific relay, contained inside the control unit.It receives an ingition-operated power supply at pin 12 connector A, from the body computer node M001, from pin 6 connector F, from a line protected by fuse F18.Pin 16 of connector A is earthedControl unit M070 communicates from pins 8, 14, 15 via the CAN with the body computer node M001 at pins 6, 8, 10 connector D and with instrument panel E050 at pins 23, 17, 13 (for more detailsPassenger compartment air fan N085 is controlled by selector unit H081. The unit contains an internal control unit that controls passenger compartment speeds according to the speed set on the appropriate selector.The relay J035 supplies the selector unit H081, at pin B connector A, on the go ahead of the body computer node M001, from pin 40 connector M, providing a direct battery supply at the selector H091, via the line protected by fuse MF08 for the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 8 connector G).The same power is also suppiled to passenger compartment air temperature sensor K089, pin 1.Pin 3 of sensor K089 and pin A connector A of H081 are connected to earth.The selector H081, connector B, is then operated by the control unit M070, from pins 2 and 3 of connector B, according to the strategy for implementing the management of the internal ventilation.Sensor K089 is connected, from pins 4, 2, 6 to the climate control system control unit M070 at pins 17, 18, 16 connector B, respectively, informing the control unit of the value of the temperature measured inside the passenger compartment.Climate control unit M070 receives data from the body computer node M001 via the CAN, from solar sensor K090. The latter is connected to body computer node M001 at pins 18 and 8 connector L.Pins 12, 14, 15 connector B of control unti M070 receive signals from the mixed air temperature sensors, i.e. lower K087 and upper K088.Pins 6, 7, and 8 connector B of electronic control unit M070 supply the electric motors for recirculation N082, left mixing N078, right mixing N079 and distribution N080 at pins 1. Pins 3, 4, 5, 6 connector C of control unit M070 receive the angular opening position of the internal air intake flaps.

The special button on the climate control system in the centre of the dashboard switches on the air cooling and dehumidification circuit, activating the air conditioning compressor.The above button enables operation of the air cooling circuit, but actual compressor activation is also dependent upon activation of:the frost thermostat sensor, located near the evaporator, which stops the engagement of the air conditioning if the temperature of the evaporator is too low;the fan linear sensor, located on the coolant circuit that locks air conditioner activation if coolant pressure is too low or high;the engine control unit that excludes compressor operation in accordance with engine management mode; e.g. in the case of high engine temperatures or high engine load (sudden acceleration).
