The radiator and air conditioner condenser cooling system consists of two electric fans: there are two different speeds depending on the temperature of the engine coolant or the pressure of the air conditioning refrigerant.The fans are activated by three relays connected to one another: depending on the temperature and pressure sensor signals, the connections are series or parallel and produce the speed levels mentioned above
Engine control unit M010 controls the operation of the engine cooling fans according to data supplied by linear sensor K120 and engine coolant sensor K036.The two sensors are connected directly to the engine management control unit M010:- pins 1, 2, 3 of K120 at pins F2, H2, F4 connector A;- pins 1, 2 of K036 at pin E1 and D1 connector B.Control unit M010 operates fans N011 and N012 on the basis of the signals supplied by both sensors.First speed operation (fans in series):The engine management control unit M010 energizes relay J030 (pin 2) from pin D4 of connector A. The relay coil is supplied (pin 1) by the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 2 connector F) through a line protected by fuse F01 and operated by a specific relay.When the relay J030 is energized, pin 3 (connected to pin 2 connector C of the MAXI FUSE box 2 B006) is short circuited at pin 5. This pin is connected to pin 1 of fan N012 which, in turn, has pin 2 connected with pin 3 of relay J031. This relay is not energized in this operating condition, therefore pin 3 is short circuited with pin 4. The latter is connected with pin 1 of fan N011 which, in turn, has pin 2 connected with earth C011. The fans are thereby connected in series.Second speed operation (fans in parallel):The engine management control unit M010 energizes relays J031 and J032 (pin 2) from pin B2 of connector A. The relay coils are supplied (pin 1) by the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 4 connector F) through a line protected by fuse F06 and operated by a specific relay.The engine management control unit M010 energizes relay J030 (pin 2) from pin D4 of connector A. The relay coil is supplied (pin 1) by the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 2 connector F) through a line protected by fuse F01 and operated by a specific relay.When the relay J032 is energized, pin 5 (connected to pin 1 connector B of the MAXI FUSE box 2 B006) is short circuited at pin 3. This pin is connected to pin 1 of fan N011 which, in turn, has pin 2 connected with earth C011. Relay J031 is also energized: pin 5 (connected with earth C011) is short circuited at pin 3 which, in turn, is connected with pin 2 of fan N012. As relay J030 is also energized (pins 3 and 5 short circuited), pin 1 of N012 is connected with pin 2 of connector C of B006. The fans are thereby connected in parallel.
