DescriptionThe side lights are switched on when the ring nut on the steeringcolumn switch unit left lever is turned to the first position. The switching on of the side lights is managedby the Body Computer. The function of controlling the side lightsis activated by the ignition key in ON position (INT) go ahead signalsand the command from the steering column switch unit: the side lightsare supplied two at a time, on the left side and the right side.Turning on the side lights also turns onthe number plate lights and numerous other interior lights for passengercompartment lighting and instrument & control lighting (these linesare described and illustrated in the diagrams for the componentsto which they refer). The activation and/or deactivation informationis sent via the ACN: in this way the 'Side Lights' warning lightin the instrument panel is also switched on.The instrument panel also activates theserigraphy night lighting. The side lights are activated automatically,if the AUTO function on the steering column switch unit is set,via the dusk sensor. The 'park' function for the sidelights is switched on when the PARK button in the switch panel ispressed:if the direction indicators are not activated, the parkinglights come on on both sides of the vehicle, like the no. platelights and the side lights warning light;if the direction indicator on one side is on, the parkinglights only come on on that side, whilst the no. plate lights andthe side lights warning light do not come on.The 'Follow me home' function is designedto keep the dipped headlamps and the side lights on after the enginehas been switched off (key in OFF position) for a time of 30 secondsor multiples thereof.Keeping the dipped headlamps on is signalledby the side lights warning light in the instrument panel remainingon. The funciton is switched on by operatingthe flasher lever within 2 minutes: each time the lever is operatedthe time the lights remain on increases by 30 seconds up to a maximum of210 secs.Operating the flasher lever for longer than2 seconds switches the function off; the function is also switchedoff if the ignition key is turned to the ON position. The correct operation of the lightsis controlled by the side lights and no. plate lights 'check' function:the following is controlled for each of the two circuits (rightbranch and left branch):open circuit or bulb missingshort circuit to earth (bulb short circuit or wiring shortcircuit to earth)short circuit to Vbatt (wiring short circuit to Vbatt)The system also detects any problems withthe dusk sensor. If one of the situations described aboveis detected, the Body Computer notifies the CAN of the failure state:a special 'failure' warning light comes on in the instrument paneland, at the same time, the information is shown on the display.
Functional description The side lights activated signal is sent to pin 28 of connectorB of the Body Computer M1 from the steering column switchunit H5 . The 'ignition ON' signal (INT) for the switchH1 reaches the underdashboard control unit B2 at pin 11 ofconnector H and from there moves on to the Body Computer M1 (pin9 of connector F). The side lights are also activated if thedusk sensor K125 is fitted (signal at pin 7 of connector D ofM1); The dusk sensor K125 is supplied from the INT line protectedby fuse F49 of junction unit B2. The lights are also activated by the PARK button in the switch unit on the tunnel H35 (signal at pin 17of connector H of M1). The Body Computer M1 controls the supplyfor the front side lights F10 (left) and F11 (right) - from pins40 and 30 of connector B, the rear side lights F30 (left) F31 (right)and the no. plate lights F50 and F51from pins 5, 6, 9 of connectorD and 38 of connector E. The Body Computer M1 is connected, viathe CAN line, to the instrument panel E50 to manage the side lightactivation warning light and the 'fault' warning light in the caseof faults in the circuit or the dusk sensor.
