DescriptionThe windscreen wash/wipe system isoperated by a lever on the right side of the steering wheel. Thelever can be set to five positions that correspond to differentfunctions by rotating it in a clockwise direction:windscreen wiper off (standstill);intermittent / automatic operation;continuous slow operation;continuous fast operation;'antipanic' temporary fast operation (unstable position, turning the lever in an anti-clockwise direction).Three different functions can beselected by rotating the ring wheel in the intermittent / automaticoperating position:on the 'LOW' version the different intermittent speedscome on (from the slowest to the fastest;on the 'HIGH' version with a rain sensor: the differentsensor settings comes on: the activation of the rain sensor operatesa windscreen wiper stroke as feed-back that the function has beenswitched on.The adjustment of the windscreen wiper strokefrequency is automatic depending on the amount of water on the windscreendetected by the actual sensor: the frequency varies with continuityfrom nil (no stroke - windscreen dry) to wiping at the second continuous speed(heavy rain). The windscreen wiper function is operatedby pulling the lever toward the steering wheel: this action operatesthe washer pump: if the lever is held in position, the windscreenwiper also operates according to a specific control logic: the windscreenwiper is activated at the first speed: when the windcreen washercontrol ceases, an additional stroke is carried out.The control of the functions described aboveis carried out by an electronic device inside the steering columnswitch unit which produces the intermittent function, controls the operationof the windscreen wiper motor and the electric windscreen washerpump and manages the rain sensor. The windscreen wash/wipe circuit is protectedby a specific fuse and is operated by the ignition-operated relaylocated in the underdashboard control unit. The windscreen wiper and washer can be operatedwith the ignition key turned to ON.(INT/A).The correct operation of the rain sensoris controlled by the check function.
Functional descriptionThe electronic device inside the steering column switch unitH5 and the controls on the right lever are supplied at pin 11 ofconnector A by the line 'controlled by the ignition' (INT/A) ofrelay T12 protected by fuse F43, both housed in the underdashboardcontrol unit B2. Pin 7 of connector A and pin 9 of connectorC of H5 are earthed.Depending on the function selected, steering column switch unit H5 N15from pin 8 for fast operationfrom pin 9 for slow and/or intermittent operation (forthe intermittent operation the signal reaches the intermittent deviceand from there is sent to the control device and then to the motor)pin 6, on the other hand, receives the earth signal comingfrom the motor end of travel cam which stops operation. When operated, the windscreen washer switchon the steering column switch unit H5 sends two signals frompins 10 and 12 of connector A which directly operate the windscreenwasher pump N22 . Rain sensor K125 is supplied by theINT line protected by fuse F49 of control unit B2, and sends anautomatic operation signal to pin 2 of connector A of H5 - via A-BUSserial line of Body Computer M1 - pin 7 of connector D and pin25 of connector B. The Body Computer M1 is connected, viathe CAN line, to the instrument panel E50 to manage the 'failure'warning light if there are problems with the rain sensor.
