DescriptionAn automatic system manages the passengercompartment climate control, i.e. temperature and ventilation withrecirculation and air flow orientation, with separate management ofthe temperature for the left and right hand sides of the passengercompartment.A dedicated control unit managessystem operation by controlling:air temperature at the driver/passenger vent;Air distribution to the vents.speed of the fan (varies continuously);activation of the compressor (air refrigeration circuit);activation of air recirculation;The MAX-DEF fast defrost function (i.e. a set of actionswhich allow both the windscreen and the rearscreen to be demistedquickly);The control unit sets the above parametersin order to adjust passenger compartment temperature to the requiredlevel. The system controls are located outside the control unit housing.The following parameters/functionscan be modified manually:fan speed;distribution directioncompressor disablementdefrosting/demisting:recirculation.Manual selections always take precedenceover automatic selections and are stored until the user deliberatelycancels the command, allowing the automatic device to take control overthe relevant function.The control unit downloads informationon interior and exterior temperature and climatic conditions viaspecial sensors.exterior temperature sensor, locate on the driver's sidedoor mirror. This signal turns on the recirculation to prevent pollutedair entering the passenger compartment;demisting sensor, which detects the presence of waterdroplets (mist) on the inner surface of the windscreen; this informationturns on the relevant demisting strategy., which alters the airand ventilation distribution pattern.After processing the information, it adjustspassenger compartment air intake speed by means of the fan motorand air temperature by means of two mixer actuators (one for the rightside and one for the left). It also controls flow distribution viaanother actuator and - lastly - the interior/exterior air recirculationfunction via a final actuator. The climate control system ECU receivesa signal from the body computer to indicate that the windscreenwasher is on and activates the recirculation function to preventthe liquid detergent smell from entering the passenger compartment.The vehicle speed signal - received by theCAN network - is used to filter outdoor temperature and adjust ventilationand the dynamic air intake according to car speed.The body computer continually downloadsa battery voltage signal for comparison with its limit value. Ifthe recorded battery voltage is lower than the threshold, the computer cutsin via the CAN network to send a signal to disable a series of appliances:this includes the fan control.The climate control system control unitis supplied by two lines, one direct and one controlled by the ignition,protected by fuses in the underdashboard control unit. the fan issupplied by a line protected by a special fuse and by a specificrelay in the engine compartment control unit.
Functional description Climate control control unit M70 is suppliedwhen the ignition is turned on (INT) at pin 39 by the line protectedby fuse F49 of underfacia junction unit B2. ; it is supplieddirectly at pin 30 from a line protected by fuse F39 of underfaciacontrol unit B2. Pin 40 of M70 is earthed. Sensors K111 (right lower treated air)and K113 (left lower treated air), K110 (right upper treated air)and K112 (left upper treated air) are connected to control unitM70: these sensors receive a reference earth from pin 11 and sendsignals to pins 20, 17, 9 and 18 of M70. The frost sensor K86 receives a referenceearth from pin 11 and sends a signal to pin 8 of M70 if the evaporatortemperature is too low. The solar ray sensor K90 informs thecontrol unit of the heat coming from rays: it receives a 5V supplyfrom pin 7 control unit M70 and gives out two signals: to pin 19for the right area and to pin 10 for the left area. The exhaust gas presence sensor (A.Q.S.) K64 suppliesa recirculation control signal when the air pollution exceeds pre-setlevels: it is supplied at pin 1 from the line controlled by theignition (INT/A) protected by fuse F31 of underfacia control unit B2 .pin 2 is earthed and pin 3 sends a signal to pin 6 of M70. The demisting sensor K125 (located inthe same unit as the rain sensor SeeE3020 WINDSCREEN WASH/WIPE andthe dusk sensor SeeE2010 SIDE LIGHTS / NO. PLATE LIGHTS ),receives an ignition-operated supply (INT) from the line protectedby fuse F49 of the junction unit under the dashboard B2. ; andsends a signal to pin 16 of M70. The air conditioning system is equippedwith one recirculation actuator ( N82 ), two air blending actuators( N78 and N79 ) and two air districution actuators ( N80 and N83 ). The recirculation actuator N82 is operatedby the control unit M70 from pins 12 and 22. The blend actuators N78 and N79 are operatedby the control unit M70 by pins 32-37 and 35-24, respectively, receivingthe supply for controlling the potentiometer from pin 31 of M70,a reference earth from pin 11 of M70 and sending a feedback signalto pins 25 and 26 of M70. The distribution actuators N83 and N80are operated by the control unit M70 by pins 33-34 and 36-38, respectively,receive a supply for controlling the potentiometer from pin 31ofM70, a reference earth from pin 11 of M70 and send a feedback signalto pins 27 and 28 of M70.
