An electronic control system supervises and governs all engine parameters to optimise performance and fuel consumption by means of a real-time response to different service conditions.Diesel engines are equipped with a COMMON RAIL type injection system.This features the use of an electronically controlled high injection pressure.The supply of fuel, known as the pilot injection, is optimized by the electronic control unit by means of the injector rather than managed by the pump.Depending on the signals received from numerous sensors, the control unit controls the injectors connected to it managing the following systems:
Engine management control unit M010 controls and governs the entire electronic ignition and injection system.Control unit M010 is supplied directly by the battery (pins L2 and M1 of connector B) via a line protected by fuse F01 located inside engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 5 connector B) and is controlled by a relay, excited (pin 9 connector B of B001) by a control signal from M010 (pin A2 connector B).The same supply also reaches the fuel pressure regulator N077 (pin 2) and the throttle adjustment solenoid valve L036 (pin 1).The ignition-operated supply reaches pin C3 of connector A of M010 through the line protected by fuse F09 located inside B001 (pin 19 connector G).The main injection relay for the engine compartment junction unit B001 controls the entire system: it is excited (pin 8 connector B) by a control signal (earth) from control unit M010 (pin C3 connector B) that in turn supplies:- fuel pump N040 (pin 3) from pin 5 of connector F via a line protectged by fuse F05;- EGR solenoid L030 (pin 1) and wastegate solenoid L037 (pin 1) from pin 22 of connector F, via the same line;- intake variable geometry control solenoid (pin 1) and part of the FAP system from pin24 of connector B via a line protected by fuse F10;- diesel preheating coil O020 (pin 1) from pin 2 of connector B, again via the same line;Fuel pump N040 (pins 5 and 6) is connected to the on-board instruments.The ignition-operated power suppoly is sent to air flow meter K041 (pin 2), glow plug preheating control unit M015 (pin 3 connector B) and safety switch on the brake pedal for cruise control I035 (pin 1) of control unit B001 (pin 20 connector F) with a line protected by fuse F06.Glow plug preheating control unit M015 (pins 4 and 5 connector B) are connected to pins B1 and F1 of connector C of M010.Control unit M010 receives signals from the various sensors in order to monitor all engine service parameters.RPM sensor K046 (pins 1 and 2) provides information on engine rpm (pins J1 and K1 connector B of M010 respectively).Engine temperature sensor K036 (pins 1and 2) receives a reference earth and supplies a signal proportional to the engine coolant temperature (pins E1 and D1 connector B of M010 respectively).Supply air pressure sensor K082 (pins 1, 2, 3) is connected to pins B2, C4, D4 of connector B of M010.Fuel pressure sensor K083 (pins 1, 2, 3) is connected to pins F1, G1, H1 of connector B of M010.Fuel temperature sensor K081 (pins 1, 2) supplies a signal proportional to temperature (pins D2 and E2 connector B of M010).Throttle adjustment solenoid L036 (pin 2) is connected to pin A4 of connector C of M010.Cylinder reference sensor K170 (pins 1, 2, 3) is connected to pins H2 G2, F2, of connector B of M010.Air flow meter K041 (pins 1, 6, 5) is connected to pins J3, G3, H3 of connector B of M010.The accelerator pedal K055 (pins 1, 2, 3, 4) has two built-in potentiometers (one main one and one safety one) and is connected to pins G3, H3, C2, G2 of connector A of M010.Clutch pedal switch I031 (pin 2) and the safety switch on the brake pedal I035 (pin 2) are connected to pins E3 and E4 (respectively) of connector A of M010.Switch I031 (pin 1) is supplied by body computer node M001 (pin 9 connector B).The "redundant" switch I035 is the "normally closed" type (when the pedal is pressed, the switch contact opens): the system checks the consistency of the "pedal pressed" information in this way.Control unit M010 (pins G1-H2, H4-H3, G4-G3, H1-G2 connector C) controls the opening of injectors N070 (pins 1 and 2).Fuel pressure regulator N077 (pin 1) keeps the fuel pressure in the rail constant and is connected to pin L2 and connector B of M010.EGR solenoid L030 (pin 2) controls exhaust gas recirculation and is connected to pin A3 of connector B di M010.Turbo pressure valve L037 (pin 2) controls the outlet pressure from the turbocharger and is connected to pin B4 of connector C of M010.Intake variable geometry control solenoid L015 (pin 2) regulates the engine air intake ports and is connected to pin B4 of connector B of M010.Control unit M010 is connected (pins A3 and A4 connector A) via the CAN line to body computer node M001 (pins 8 and 10 connector D) to instrument panel E050 (pins 6 and 12) and to warning light and odometer control unit M140 (pins 2 and 5) and engine compartment junction unit B001 (pins 11 and 12 connector F).The autodiagnostic data for the control unit M010 (pin B4 connector A) is read by connecting to connector R010 (pin 7).Control unit M010 (pins F2, H2, F4 connector A) is connected to the air conditioning system: in this way, compressor activation or deactivation is adjustd on the basis of engine speed.- to pins B2, C4, D4 of connector A, the engine cooling system;- to pins H2, E3, D3, F3, M3, B3, A4 of connector B, the FAP system;- to pins K3, F4, E4, H4 of connector B, the cruise control system;
