DescriptionThe car is fitted with a horn system which consists of two horns with different tones: a high tone and a low tone horn. Both horns are activated simultaneously. The horns are operated by pressing the sides of the steering wheel cover (around the Air Bag). The horn circuit is protected by a special fuse and controlled by a specific relay located in the engine compartment control unit. For safety reasons, the horns can be operated at any time, even when the key is turned to OFF (or removed).
Functional description The system for the horns is supplied through the horn relay T3 of the engine compartment control unit B1 from the direct line from the battery through the fuse F10 located in B1 . The relay coil is energized by an earth signal when one of the steering switches is closed; these switches are connected via the clock spring to the stalk unit H5 . The relay thereby supplies the high tone horn P10 and the low tone horn P11 .

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer, electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour: a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery; a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For further details, see DESCRIPTION ANDOPERATION - 5580.768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360'). Depending on the voltage values measured, which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows:If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery (see op.). 5530B10).If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery (see op. 5530B14).If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient. If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water, taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768
