DescriptionThe headlamp washer device is responsible for washing the front windscreen and the headlamp lens. The headlamp washer function is managed by the Body Computer which automatically operates the headlamp washers - with the dipped or main beam headlamps on - when the windscreen washer is operated, via the lever on the right of the steering wheel. The headlamp washer device consists of a detergent delivery pump and a nozzle in the bumpers that sprays a powerful jet onto the headlamp.A timer operates the headlamp washer pump in a series of half second pulses. The headlamp washer circuit is protected by a fuse and adjusted by a specific relay, located in the engine compartment control unit.
Functional description The relay T17 for the engine compartment control unit B1 is supplied by the line for fuse F9 for the engine compartment control unit B1 and is energized by the line 'controlled by the ignition' (INT/A) from fuse 31 of the underdashboard control unit B2 . The relay operates the headlamp washer pump N25 directly when the command arrives from the Body Computer M1 . The Body Computer, in turn, processes the signal, at pin 14 of connector A, coming from the steering column switch unit H5 and the go ahead with the main beam or dipped headlamps on.

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer, electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour: a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery; a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For further details, see DESCRIPTION ANDOPERATION - 5580.768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360'). Depending on the voltage values measured, which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows:If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery (see op.). 5530B10).If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery (see op. 5530B14).If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient. If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water, taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768
