DESCRIPTION - ELECTRIC STEERING LOCK - Alfa Romeo 159 2.4 JTD 20V Fino a 12/05
This vehicle is equipped with a starting system known as Smart-Key where there is no longer a traditional ignition key having been replaced with an electronic key "T.E.G." (Transmitter for Entry and go) combined with an electronic key reader and TEG-Reader radio frequency receiver.Access to the vheicle through radiofrequency recognition of the remote control incorporated in the TEG is entirely the same as what takes place with the traditional remote control incorporated in the key fob.The vehicle is not switched on/started up by inserting the key in the ignition switch (which is no longer present) and turning it but by inserting the TEG in the TEG Reader and activating the START/STOP button. The distribution of the power supply to the vehicle (ignition-controlled INT, INT/A, AVV, etc.) is managed by the steering lock node and takes place in entirely the same way as for models equipped with a traditional key.As there is no longer a mechanical key, the steering lock function is produced electrically via the steering lock electronic control unit, connected to the CAN. The release of the steering by the steering lock node takes place when the ignition-controlled INT is activated. The steering is locked by the steering lock node when the TEG is extracted from the TEG Reader. For more details
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION - ELECTRIC STEERING LOCK - Alfa Romeo 159 2.4 JTD 20V Fino a 12/05
The electric steering lock control unit M89 controls and regulates the entire electrically operated steering column lock system and also manages the vehicle access and starting system. The power supply for the control unit M89 comes, at pin C1 of M89, from the line protected by fuse F3 of the engine compartment junction unit B1, whilst pin A4 of M89 is earthed. The TEG inserted status is sent by the TEG Reader H3 via the CAN - pins 3 and 8. The same signal is sent, redundantly, to the steering lock node M89, from pin 2 and the latter, in turn, forwards it via the CAN.The TEG Reader H3 also receives a power supply - pin 6 - from the line protected by fuse F32 of the junction unit under the dashboard B2. pin 7 of H3 is earthed. The Smart Key system controls several warning lights and/or sends message signals to the instrument panel: the control unit M89 is connected via the CAN line ot the instrument panel E50 and manages the switching on of the steering lock warning light and a series of warning and failure messages shown in the instrument panel display.
