DESCRIPTION - PARKING SENSOR - Alfa Romeo 159 1.9 JTD 8V Da 01/06

The "Parking Assistance" system supplies the driver with information on distance when approaching obstacles (both behind and in front of the vehicle) thereby providing help with parking manoeuvres and identifying obstacles that are outside the field of vision. The information concerning the presence or distance of the obstacle is transmitted to the driver by means of acoustic and visual signals:- the frequency of the acoustic impulse warnings depends on the distance of the obstacle from the bumper.- the display in the instrument panel shows the areas around the vehicle which start flashing if the system detects that the vehicle is getting close to an obstacle. The system is activated if the following conditions are present simultaneously:- Key ON (TEG inserted)- reverse gear engaged or activation button - located on the front courtesy light - pressed (with the speed below 15 km/h).When the system is activated the buzzer warns of this condition and the LED is lit up. The system is deactivated:- by pressing the button again;- by disengaging reverse gear and when the vehicle speed is above 18 km/h.The LED goes out when the system is deactivated.767The distance measurement only takes place when the system is activated, whilst only the control unit is operational in the inactive state. An electronic control unit activates and controls the operation of the sensors located in the front bumper and in the rear bumper, processes the signals received and operates the buzzers, one at the front and one at the back: the first is located on the cover under the dashboard on the driver''s side, the second is located in the luggage compartment at the base of the right rear pillar. The sensors use ultrasound technology and act as intelligent transmitters/receivers with triangulation technology: allowing improved detection in critical situations or in the presence of small obstacles. The impulses emitted are reflected by any obstacles; the transducer receives an echo which is converted into a digital signal and sent to the electronic control unit. The signalling of the distance of the obstacle is achieved through sound and visual signals:- the sound from the buzzer warns the driver that the vehicle is approaching an obstacle: the pause between the sounds is directly proportional to the distance from the obstacle, whilst a continuous sound indicates that the obstacle is less than 30 cm away;- the instrument panel display with the system activated shows the various areas around the vehicle, 7 front and 8 rear. The various areas are, in the various cases, either off, flashing or on constantly. For more details and information on the operation of the system,The control unit is equipped with an autodiagnostic function: when switched on the control unit carries out an initial test on the sensors which are then continuously subject to fault diagnosis during the operation of the system.A fault in only one sensor inhibits the operation of the entire system which is deactivated.Any faults/errors are signalled in the instrument panel by the relevant warning light coming on and the message in the display. The system is supplied by the circuit protected by a specific fuse in the junction unit under the dashboard.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION - PARKING SENSOR - Alfa Romeo 159 1.9 JTD 8V Da 01/06

The parking sensor control unit M84 receives a supply at pin 1 of connector A from the ignition-controlled INT line protected by fuse F49 of junction unit B2; pin 8 of connector A is earthed. The control unit is connected, via pins 7 and 4 of connector A and the CAN, to all the other nodes in the same network, for example receiving the information that reverse gear is engaged. The commands for the display are sent to the instrument panel via the CAN.The signal from the activation/deactivation button, located in the courtesy light G10, reaches pin 4 of connector A. The positive signal that lights up the LED next to the button is sent from pin 13 of connector A.The front buzzer P44A is connected to pins 3 and 4 of connector B.The rear buzzer P44B is connected to pins 1 and 10 of connector A.The four front parking sensors K97 are connected to connector B of the control unit M84: pin 1 provides the reference earth, pin 2 the power supply, pins 5, 6, 7 and 8 are connected to sensors K97A, K97B, K97C and K97D, respectively. The four rear parking sensors K97 are connected to connector C of the control unit M84: pin 1 provides the reference earth, pin 6 the power supply, pins 5, 3, 2 and 4 are connected to sensors K97E, K97F, K97G and K97H, respectively.
