DESCRIPTION - CAN CONNECTION LINES - Fiat 500 1.4 16v

This vehicle is equipped with a CAN (Controller Area Network) system of electrical connections: This involves a software and hardware solution designed to manage efficiently the resources on the vehicle, allowing:the sharing of information between the various electronic units;the integration of several electronic units through one network;a high network information exchange speed;economic advantages due to a considerable reduction in the wiring and connectors inside the vehicle;superior standards in terms of quality and reliability. The advantage of using a CAN system stems from the fact that communication takes place between numerous control units and consequently the number of signals to be managed is very high. For this reason the signals travel on a CAN type (twin) serial Bus where one wire is high level (H) and the other low level (L); these signals on the CAN Bus are differential, i.e. the value assigned to the bit is represented by the difference between the CAN-H and CAN-L voltage levels. The different electronic units which make up the system, known as network nodes, are connected to the CAN by means of communication interfaces known as transreceivers; these connection interfaces, integrated in the electronic units, constitute the gate for sending/reading the information at the CAN or at the serial lines. The exchange of information at CAN type serial lines is only possible using a transmission protocol which is the collection of rules that allow communication between two or more nodes by means of the exchange of information or data packages. The main element of the CAN is the Body Computer which is entrusted with waking up the network when the ignition key is turned to the ON position (if there is a problem with the Body Computer this task is entrusted to the instrument panel). The Body Computer also carries out the network checking functions which make it possible to provide information on:the network activities status;the functional failure status of the individual electronic units (nodes);a possible CAN fault. The various electronic units process the various signals coming from the corresponding sensors both for their own management and for other control units to which they are sent via the CAN.The specific structure adopted for this vehicle consists of two CAN communication networks which connect nodes belonging to two different areas:C-CAN for dynamic vehicle control (high speed): Bus CAN-H and CAN-L;B-CAN for the management of body functions (low speed): Bus CAN-A and CAN-B.Diagnosis of nodes connected to the network - B-CAN and C-CAN - is carried out via the specific diagnostic connector.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION - CAN CONNECTION LINES - Fiat 500 1.4 16v

The Body computer M001 receives a direct battery power supply (pin 1 of connector A) protected by fuse F01 of the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pin 18 of connector B); it also receives an ignition-controlled power supply (INT) at pin 11 of connector E. The latter supply is used, amongst other things, for waking up the network. The Body computer M001 is also connected to the driver''s side dashboard earth C015 via pins 9 and 10 of connector E.The following nodes are connected to the Body Computer M001 via the C-CAN high speed network:the Bluetooth control unit M162 (on the Blue & Me version);the diagnostic socket R010;electric steering control unit M086;slewing control unit M091;the ESP braking system control unit M051;the engine management control unit M010.In detail, the Body computer M001 is connected:from pins 24 and 26 of connector D with the Bluetooth control unit M162 (pins 1 and 2 of connector B);from pins 25 and 27 of connector D with the diagnostic socket R010 (pins 6 and 14);from pins 44 and 45 of connector B, with the electric steering control unit M086 (pins 2 and 3 of connector B).The control unit M086 is connected, via pins 7 and 8 of connector B, with pins 4 and 2 of the slewing control unit M091; the latter is then connected, via pins 5 and 3, with pins 26 and 14 of the ESP braking system control unit M051.The ESP braking system control unit M051 is, in turn, connected, via pins 27 and 15, with the engine management control unit M010 (pins 50 and 49 of connector A for the 1.2 petrol versions; pins 89 and 88 of connector A for the 1.4 petrol version; pins 64 and 40 of connector A for the 1.3 JTD version). The following nodes are connected to the M001 Body Computer via the B-CAN low speed network:the instrument panel E050;the radio P020;the Bluetooth control unit M162 (on the standard and Blue & Me versions);the Air Bag control unit M060;the climate control system control unit M070;the diagnostic socket R010;the parking sensors control unit M084.767On versions with optional radio preparation, there is no B-CAN for the radio. In detail, the Body computer M001 is connected:from pins 57 and 58 of connector B, with the climate control system control unit M070 (pins 10 and 9 of connector A);from pins 17 and 22 of connector D with the radio P020 (pins A3 and A1 of connector A);from pins 16 and 21 of connector D, with the Air Bag control unit M060 (pins 7 and 8 connector A);from pins 34 and 49 of connector F, with the parking sensor control unit M084 (pins 7 and 14 of connector A);from pins 37 and 52 of connector F with the Bluetooth control unit M162 (pins 14 and 30 of connector A for the Blue & Me version);from pins 19 and 23 of connector D with the diagnostic socket R010 (pins 9 and 1).767This version does NOT include individual diagnostic lines (dedicated K line) that monitor the individual control units.
