The system is operated with the key ON.The windscreen wiper system is operated by the stalk switch located to the right of the steering wheel. This stalk may be moved to five different positions that correspond to the following functions:- windscreen wiper off (stationary);- intermittent operation (up to four types of intermittent setting are present);- continuous fast operation (1st speed);- continuous fast operation (2nd speed);- temporary operation (unstable stalk position), stalk retursn to neutral position when released and automatically deactivates the windscreen wiper. The windscreen wiper function can be deactivated by pulling the stalk slightly toward the steering wheel: the windscreen washer pump is then operated. The wiper comes on too if the stalk remains pulled back (continuous operation). The wiper continues to work for a few sweeps when the stalk is released.Windscreen wiper operation is governed by an electronic device built into the stalk unit. This generates the intermittent function and controls operation of the wiper motor. The windscreen wash/wipe circuit is protected by a fuse and controlled by a relay in the junction unit under the dashboard.
The steering column switch unit windscreen wiper remote control switch H05 makes it possible to select the various windscreen wash/wipe operating modes. The power supply for the steering column switch unit H05 reaches pin 11 of connector A via the output at pin 10 connector A of the junction unit under the dashboard B02.Inside the junction unit B02 this line comes from relay F12 via a line protected by fuse F43.The power supply at the relay arrives from the line protected by fuse F1 housed in the junction unit B01 from pin A connector C of the junction unit under the dashboard B02.The operation of the relay F12 is determined by the ignition controlled supply line (INT/A) entering the junction unit under the dashboard B02 at pin 1 connector E.According to the function selected, stalk unit H05 (connector A) sends the following control signals to the electronic device inside wiper motor N15:- from pin 9 for operation at first speed;- from pin 8 for operation at second speed;- from pin 6 for zeroing. The steering column switch unit H05 also supplies the wind/rearscreen washer pump N22 sending a supply signal and an earth signal from pins 12 and 10 connector A.The steering column switch unit H05 is earthed at pin 7 connector A and at pin 5 connector C.The windscreen wiper motor N15 is earthed at pin 5.
