The radiator and condenser cooling system consists of an electric fan, for versions with air conditioning, operated at two different speeds:- the first speed is activated at a first engine coolant temperature level and a certain air conditioning refrigerant fluid pressure;- the second speed is engaged at a higher temperature. The fan is operated by means of two specific relays located near the engine compartment junction unit. The fan supply line and relay excitation circuit is protected by a dedicated fuse located in the above control unit that protects many other ignition-operated services. The fan can therefore only be activated with the key ON.
On versions with air conditioning, the power supply for fan N11 comes directly from the battery via relay R7 in the maximum speed condition or via relay R6 and the limiting resistance O10 in the first engine cooling speed condition. The relays are housed in the engine compartment junction unit B01.The direct power supply for relay R7 is protected by fuse F7, the one for relay R6 by F6.They are energized by two distinct earth signal coming from the engine management control unit M10.The engine temperature sensor K36 measurs the temperature of the engine coolant and, if the values of this parameter are high, the control unit M10 sends an earth signal from pin 40 of connector A to the relay R6 (which manages the first fan speed) which energizes the coil. The relay R6 thens sends the power supply, via the resistance O10, activating the fan N11 at the first speed. If the engine coolant reaches a higher temperature level, the control unit M10 sends an earth signal from pin 14 of connector A to the relay R7 which controls the second fan N11 speed making it turn at the maximum speed. On versions without air conditioning, there is only one speed for the cooling fan N11: the cooling fan N11 receives a direct supply from the battery via relay R6 (which is energized by pin 40 connector A of the engine management control unit M10 when the temperature of the coolant becomes too hot) via a line protected by fuse F6.
