The indicators and the warning lights that make up the on board instrumentation are grouped together in a single instrument which contains:- fuel level gauge with reserve warning light;- engine coolant temperature gauge with overheating warning light;- rev counter;- speedometer;- warning lights;- multifunction display. The instrument panel is a CAN node through which information is exchanged with the body computer and with the other electronic units.A series of data is shown on the instrument panel digital display, which includes:- milometer/trip meter;- clock;- headlamp alignment corrector reading;- trip computer.Fuel level: the body computer receives the signal from the sensor integrated in the pump assembly inside the fuel tank and processes it to guarantee suitable filtering/damping for the panel gauge, also managing the reserve warning light. The fuel level is displayed by means of an electronic circuit inside the actual module that operates the gauge and the reserve warning light as well (when the guage is at 15% of the tank capacity). The internal logic also "dampens" the signal preventing fluctuations.Engine coolant temperature: this function involves the display of the engine coolant temperature in the instrument panel and the overheating warning light coming on by means of messages sent via the CAN from the engine management control unit.Vehicle speed: the speedometer signal is supplied by the speedometer sensor. This signal is processed by the body computer and sent to the instrument panel to display the vehicle speed. For more details on the multifunction display,Rev counter: this function involves the display on the instrument panel of the engine rotation speed by means of the signal from the special sensor sent via the CAN from the engine management control unit. The light beam for the front light clusters can be adjusted using the headlamp alignment corrector buttons to the left of the dashboard.Engine oil pressure sensor: this function involves the display on the instrument panel of the engine oil pressure warning light by means of the message sent via the CAN from the engine management control unit.Water in diesel filter: this function involves a water in the diesel filter warning light coming on in the instrument through the signal from the special sensor sent via the CAN from the engine management control unit.Other information is acquired directly by the body computer which sends it to the instrument panel which manages the switching on of the appropriate warning lights:- handbrake applied: the warning light for the handbrake status is controlled by the specific switch;- insufficient brake fluid pressure: the body computer receives the insufficient brake fluid pressure signal and sends it to the instrument panel.Lastly, there are other warning lights located inside the instrument panel but they are managed directly by the respective electronic units:- Air Bag failure warning light;- passenger Air Bag disabled warning light;- seat belt not fastened warning light.Other information, described in the various wiring diagrams, is acquired via the CAN from the instrument panel which lights up the relevant warning lights:- side lights activation;- direction indicators / hazard warning lights activation;- rear fog lamps activation;- main beam headlamps activation;- fog lights activation;- activation of rear windscreen and exterior rear view mirrors defrosting;- doors open warning light;- insufficient battery recharging;- i.e. system/EOBD failure;- activation of heater plugs;- presence of water in diesel filter;- insufficient engine oil pressure;- activation of vehicle protection system;- activation of ABS failure;- EBD braking system failure (insufficient brake fluid pressure warning light); When the ignition is turned ON and during normal operation if there are any failure signals, the instrument panel carries out a fault diagnosis of the "handbrake applied/insufficient brake fluid" and "ABS/EBD failure" warning lights. At the end of this warning light check, the display signals any failure (in one or more warning lights) displaying the words "LED Err" flashing for about 10 seconds. For further details,
The ignition controlled power supply (INT) for instrument E50 reaches pin 1 connector A via the body computer M01, pin 31 connector F from the line protected by fuse F37 of the junction unit under the dashboard B02.The instrument E50 also receives a direct power supply from the battery - pin 3 of connector A - via the body computer, pin 3 connector D from the line protected by fuse F53 housed in the junction unit under the dashboard B02.The power supply to the body computer M01 reaches pin 9 connector XY via the junction unit under the dashboard B02 (pin 11 connector E) from the ignition switch H01 (INT) and at pin 18 of connector XY of the body computer M01 via the junction unit under the dashboard B02 directly from the battery protected by fuse F1 located inside the engine compartment junction unit B01.Pins 8 and 9 of connector D of the body computer are earthed. The body computer M01 and the instrument panel E50 converse with one another exchanging information on the correct operation of the devices on the vehicle from pins 5 and 6 connector D and 9 and 8 connector A.The instrument panel E50 is earthed, via the body computer M01, from pin 2 connector A.The signals for the handbrake switch I40 and the brake fluid level sensor K25 reach pin 14 connector A and pin 18 connector C of M01.The body computer receives the signals coming from the flow gauge, located in the electric pump assembly N40, at pins 4 and 15 connector A: these signals, sent via the CAN to the instrument panel, are processed by the internal electronic device which manages the level gauge and the reserve warning light housed in the actual instrument. The speedometer sensor K84 sends its own signal directly to the body computer M01 at pin 17 connector C; it is sent via the CAN line to both the instrument panel E50 for managing all the information regarding the vehicle speed and to the engine management control unit M10 for the correct operation of the latter. The minimum engine oil pressure signal reaches the engine management control unit M10, pin 9 connector B from the special sensor K30; this signal reaches the instrument panel E50, via the CAN, making the activation of the warning light possible. If there is water in the filter, the water in the diesel filter sensor K31 sends its own signal to pin 90 connector A of the engine management control unit M10; the control unit commands the instrument panel E50, via the CAN, to switch on the "water in the diesel filter" warning light. In the same way the information linked to the temperature of the engine coolant leaves the appropriate sensor K36 and reaches the engine management control unit M10 at pins 54 and 29 of connector B. From there it is then sent to the instrument panel E50 to manage the gauge signal and, if necessary, the coolant overheating warning light. The rpm sensor K46 sends the engine rpm signal to the engine management control unit M10 at pins 43 and 59 connector B; the control unit informs the instrument panel E50, via the CAN, which makes the display of the engine speed possible. The information travels via the CAN line from pins 58 and 59 connector B of M10 to pins 36 and 37 connector C of M01.The signal for the headlamp alignment corrector leaves pin 6 connector A of the instrument panel. The signals from the AIR BAG control unit for the correct management of the warning lights reach pins 12, 14 and 15 connector B.The zeroing/sliding signal for the Trip Computer values reaches pin 4 of connector A.
