DescriptionThe electric windows in the front doors are operated through the switches in the handles in the front driver's door (both windows) and the front passenger door (passenger side only). The electric windows are operated by pressing the appropriate switch:for the driver's window: the operation is manual (the glass goes up/down only when the button is pressed) when the button is held down for 60 to 300 milliseconds; the operation is instead automatic (the glass continues to go up/down to the end of travel, even if the button is released) when the button is held down for over 300 milliseconds; if the button is pressed again during movement of the glass, the glass is stopped instantly; if the button is pressed for less than 60 milliseconds, it is ignored (it is considered to have been knocked accidentally).the passenger window can only be operated manually.
Both windows can only be operated when the ignition is on.This logic is controlled by the electric windows control unit, in the driver's glove compartment. The control unit also carries out a series of safety checks:the stopping of the electric windows (switching off the electric supply to the motor) is determined when the glass reaches the end of travel at top or bottom, or if an obstacle blocks the glass. This is regulated by checking the motor current.if there are faults on the electrical circuits, the control unit switches the system off temporarily (for example if the motor control signals are interrupted or if the absorbed current is below the usual values);if there is a fault in the control buttons (short circuit, or buttons jammed in the pressed position), the control unit switches the system off temporarily
The control switch symbols are lit when the key is turned to MAR.The control circuit for the front electric windows is protected by a specific fuse, next to the junction unit.
Functional description The special front electric windows control unit M81 ensures the correct operation of the circuit. The direct supply from the battery reaches the control unit M81 (pin 30) from the line for the maxifuse J/B2 for B5 protected by fuse B22, pin 31 provides the reference earth for the control unit. The control unit is then supplied at pin 15 from the line controlled by the ignition (INT) protected by fuse F8 for the junction unit B1. The switches H40(left electric window), H41 (right electric window in left front door) and H50 (right electric window in right front door) are supplied directly by the actual control unit, at pin 87 (common supply). There are two further connections, for the left electric window H40, at pins P9 and P10, which receive the command signals for the left front electric window motor N60, operated by the control unit by pins M4 and M5. The right front electric window motor N61 is operated directly by the switches H41 and H50, which provide suitable earth and supply signals to determine the direction of rotation of the motor. All the switches have specific LEDs which light up when they are supplied.
