DescriptionThe rearscreen wiper is operated by turning the ring nut on the end of the lever located on the right of the steering wheel.By pushing the lever gently towards the steering wheel the rearscreen washer function is activated; the same pump is used as for the windscreen washer, but it rotates in the opposite direction and sends the detergent fluid to the rear.If the lever is kept pressed, the rearscreen wiper comes on and operates for a few moments after the lever is released. The rearscreen wash/wipe can only be operated with the ignition switched ON.The rearscreen wash/wipe circuit is protected by a specific fuse (which also protects the windscreen wash/wipe circuit) and operated by the ignition-operated relay, located in the junction unit. The rearscreen wiper is regulated by a device inside the actual rearscreen wiper motor.
Functional description The special switch for the steering column switch unit H5 controls the operation of the rearscreen wash/wipe. The stalk unit H5 is supplied at pin 3 of connector D from the ignition-operated line (INT/A) of the relay R1 protected by the fuse F14: both are contained in the junction unit B1. The supply for the relay R1 comes from the direct line of the maxifuse J/B1 of B5, whilst the coil is supplied by the line (INT/A) protected by the fuse B26. When operated, the rearscreen wash/wipe switch for the steering column switch unit H5, sends the control signals, from pins 1 and 2 of connector D, to the device inside the motor N16 (pins 1 and 3) which regulates the operation of the rearscreen wiper. The motor N16 is then connected to earth through pin 2.The rearscreen wiper unit consists of the actual geared motor, the end of travel contacts and the control relay. When operated, the rearscreen washer switch sends two signals from pins 8 and 9 of connector A for H5 which reach the pump for operating the rearscreen washer N22 directly (the operation is the reverse of the windscreen washer function See E3020
