DescriptionThe vehicle is available with two electrically operated sun roofs - front and rear which provide additional ventilation for the passenger compartment and guarantee a rapid exchange of air, when necessary, thereby increasing passenger comfort. The system can be activated by two switches, which can be operated from the front seats, and are located near the courtesy light. The motors operate in the following way: pressing the switch firstly gradually raises the rear of the transparent section until it reaches the spoiler position and then moves the sliding section from this position to the rear end of travel position. The operations are carried out in reverse to close the roof. The control system for each roof is located at the front of it: it consists of a single unit which includes the actual motor and a special electronic control. The electronics of the rear roof also include a special safety function: whilst the roof is closing, the movement is interrupted or reversed if an obstacle is detected by a Hall effect sensor located on the motor. This function makes it possible to stop the closing of the roof is there is an opposing force of more than around 1 kg (e.g. a finger, hand). The sunroof can only be operated with the ignition on. The switches are lit up when the ignition is switched ON.The power circuit is controlled by a relay which also controls the other optional services and is protected by a specific fuse, both of which are located next to the junction unit.
Functional description The optional services relay J60 controls the sun roof power circuit. The coil for the relay J60 is energized when the ignition is switched on (INT) from the line for fuse F8 of the junction unit B1 , whilst the supply to the relay contact arrives directly from the battery via the maxifuse J/B2 line of B5 and is protected by the sun roof fuse B14 . The two switches H61 and H62 receive a supply from the relay J60 (the switches are also lit up thanks to the specific LEDs). Front roof: the operation of the switch H61 in either direction sends the motor N36 a supply or an earth thereby determining the direction of rotation and the consequent movement of the roof. Rear roof: the operation of the switch H62 similarly controls the control unit M83 . The latter is also supplied by a direct line ( J/B1 ) protected by fuse F10 of B1 : according to the commands received by the switch H62 it operates the motor N37 . The lines for pins 9, 11 and 12 connect the control unit to the Hall effect sensor inside the motor.
