DescriptionThe electronic anti-lock brake system (BOSCH 5.7 ABS with ASR) governs braking pressure sent to the wheels and prevents loss of grip under all tyre and road surface conditions. This is combined with an ESP (Electronic Stability Program) system, which controls vehicle stability by modulating drive torque and braking the wheels differentially, if there is a loss of grip, thus helping to return the car to its correct trajectory. The ESP system acts on the engine and brakes to generate a stabilising torque when the ABS sensors detect conditions that could lead to the vehicle slipping. The ESP system includes the following specific components over and above those of the ABS:a sensor which detects the steering wheel position (steering sensor);a sensor which detects the vehicle's rotation around the vertical axis and side acceleration (centrifugal force) (yaw sensor);a sensor that detects pressure on the hydraulic ABS unit (pressure sensor)The ESP system is always connected to the ASR system. The ASR system increases vehicle stability and active safety by controlling drive wheel slip. If slip is caused by excessive power transmission, it cuts in to reduce engine power through communication with the engine management control unit. if slip is detected at a single wheel, the system cuts in to brake the slipping wheel by acting on the modulation solenoid.ASR comes on automatically whenever the engine is started. The system can be deactivated by operating a button on the central console. When the system is off, an LED on the button comes on at the same time as a warning light on the control panel. The ESP, on the other hand, comes on automatically when the vehicle is started up and cannot be switched off.ASR/ESP warning light: the warning light flashes when the system cuts in to notifiy the driver that the ASR system has cut in due to road surface grip conditions. When th econtrol unit detects an error in the ASR function or the ESP function, it lights up the warning light constantly. As far as the ABS function is concerned, 3361125SeeE7020ABS . As far as the ASR function is concerned, 3361133SeeE7021ASR / TCS .
Functional description The ABS electronic control unit M50 is supplied (at pin 2 and 6) directly by the battery via a line protected by maxifuse F1, housed in the engine compartment junction unit B1 . The ignition-operated supply (INT/A) reaches pin 23 from the line protected by the fuse F42 of under facia control unit B2 . The control unit is earthed via pins 1 and 5. The four sensors K70, K71, K75, K76 send wheel speed signals to pins 28-12, 15-16, 13-14 and 30-31 of M50 respectively. Brake pedal switch I30 sends an enablement signal to pin 32 of control unit M50 : the ABS cannot intervene unless the brake pedal is pressed. The switch I30 is supplied when the ignition is switched on (INT) from fuse F37 of junction unit B2 . Steering sensor K58 is supplied by ABS control unit M50 at pin 39 and receives a reference earth from pin 21: the signal that detects sudden changes in steering direction is sent via the CAN line to engine control unit M1 and ABS control unit M50 . Yaw sensor K74 is supplied from ABS control unit M50 at pin 39, while it receives a reference earth from pin 21: control and command signals are exchanged with ABS control unit M50 , at pins 8, 9, 10 and 41. Pressure sensor K72 is supplied from ABS control unit M50 at pin 42, while it receives a reference earth from pin 25: the pressure detection signal is sent to pin 26 of ABS control unit M50 . Pin 37 di M50 emits a discrete speed signal that is sent tol Body Computer M1 ; the same signal is also copied via the CAN network. Pins 24 and 40 of ABS control unit M50 connect to engine control unit M10, Body Computer M1 and and instrument panel E50 to control the ABS warning light and - if the problem lies in the EBD function - the low brake fluid level and handbrake warning lights. The ESP and ASR functions manage the ESP warning light as described previously.767 the same warning light is also used for the ASR function; The ESP system is always linked to the ASR system 3361133SeeE7021ASR / TCS . The 'ASR OFF' control button on panel H35 sends a deactivation signal to pin 27 of M50 , while pin 18 viene relays a signal that turns on a led on panel H35 when the system is off. ; The switch H35 is supplied when the ignition is switched on (INT) from fuse F49 of junction unit B2 . Self-diagnostic data can be read by connecting to connector C of Body Computer M1 - pin 1: it receives signals from pin 11 of the control unit M50 via the special diagnostic line. 3361166SeeE8010DIAGNOSTIC MULTIPLE CONNECTOR
