DescriptionThe headlamp washer device is responsible for washing the front windscreen and the headlamp lens. The headlamp washer function is operated automatically, with the dipped beams on, when the windscreen washer is operated by a stalk lever to the right of the steering wheel. The headlamp washer device consists of a detergent delivery pump and a nozzle in the bumper that sprays a powerful jet onto the headlamp. The headlamp circuit is protected by a special fuse and governed by an electronic timing device, both of which are located in the junction unit. The timer operates the headlamp washer pump in a series of half-second pulses.
Functional description The headlamp washer delay unit R3 is located in junction unit B1 . It is supplied (pin P) directly by the battery (maxifuse CENTR of B5 ) via fuse F12 of junction unit B1 ; pin 31 is earthed. The device only works with the dipped headlamps on: pin 56 of R3 receives a signal from the line coming from the dipped headlamps circuit ( 3309117SeeE2011DIPPED HEADLAMPS ): the dipped headlamps switch for the exterior lights control H6 receives a supply controlled by the ignition (INT/A) at pin 7 via fuse F13 of junction unit B1 ; when the lights are on a command is sent, via the steering column switch unit B5 , to pin 6 of connector B of M45 : in response to this signal the Check device M45 commands the supply of the dipped headlamps from pin 5 of connector D. This signal energizes the relay R1 , located in the relay control unit B3 , which supplies the dipped headlamps via the line for fuse F7 of B3 and the headlamp washer R3 of B1 . - pin 56. The windscreen wiper motor N15 is supplied from pin 1 of connector B stalk unit H5 . If the windscreen washer switch of the stalk unit H5 is operated, a command signal is sent to the windscreen wiper motor N15 - pin 4 of connector B. The command signal for operating the headlamp washer is sent to pin S of R3 . In response to both signals at pins S and 56, the device R3 of B1 supplies - from pin P - the headlamp washer pump N25 with pulses of about half a second.
