DescriptionThe side lights are switched on when the ring nut on the steering column switch unit left lever is turned to the first position.The switching on of the side lights is managed by the Body Computer.The function of controlling the side lights is activated by the ignition key in ON position (INT) and the command from the steering column switch unit: the four side lights are supplied in this way.Turning on the side lights also turns on the number plate lights and numerous other interior lights for passenger compartment lighting and instrument & control lighting (these lines are described and illustrated in the diagrams for the components to which they refer).The activation and/or deactivation information is sent via the ACN: in this way the 'Side Lights' warning light in the instrument panel is also switched on. The instrument panel also activates the serigraphy night lighting.The side lights are activated automatically, via the dusk sensor, if the AUTO function is set on the steering column switch unit.The dusk sensor is an infrared device that operates at different levels of sensitivity. When the dusk sensor is activated, a message appears on the control panel display that indicates a preset sensitivity level (from 1 to 3). This intensity may be adjusted using the 'Mode +' and 'Mode -' keys. The parking lights function is switched on, with the ignition OFF, by pressing the button in the control panel to the left of the steering wheel: a roger beep signals that they have been switched on.If the left steering column switch unit lever is turned (as for activating the direction indicators) it is possible to select whether to switch on the side lights on both sides of the vehicle (lever in centre position) or on one side only (lever downwards to select the left side and lever upwards to select the right side).The 'Follow me home' function is designed to keep the dipped headlamps and the side lights on after the engine has been switched off (key in OFF position) for a time of 30 seconds or multiples thereof.Keeping the lights on is signalled by the side lights warning light in the instrument panel remaining on.The function is switched on by operating the flasher lever within 2 minutes of the ignition being switched OFF: each time the lever is operated the time the lights remain on increases by 30 seconds up to a maximum of 210 secs.Turning the ignition ON or keeping the flasher lever pulled for more than 2 seconds switches the function off.The correct operation of the lights is controlled by the side lights and no. plate lights 'check' function: the following is controlled for each of the circuits:open circuit or bulb missingshort circuit to earth (bulb short circuit or wiring short circuit to earth)short circuit to Vbatt (wiring short circuit to Vbatt)If one of the situations described above is detected, the Body Computer notifies the CAN of the failure state: the special 'lights failure' warning light in the instrument panel comes on and, at the same time, the information is shown on the display.For safety reasons, if one of the rear bulbs fails with the side lights on, the brake light on the corresponding side comes on dimly to simulate the brightness of the side light.In addition, the system detects any problems with the dusk sensor: if a fault is detected, the general failure warning light in the instrument panel is lit up and the information is shown in the display at the same time.
Functional description The side lights activation (earth) and, possible AUTO function signal, is sent to pin 28 of connector G of the Body Computer M1 from the steering column switch unit H5. The side lights are activated automatically by the dusk sensor K125 (signal via the A-BUS line to pin 7 of connector D of M1); The dusk sensor K125 is supplied from the INT line protected by fuse F49 of junction unit B2. The lights are also activated by means of the parking lights button located on the left switch panel H91 which sends an earth signal to pin 17 of connector H of M1. The Body Computer M1 controls the supply for the front side lights F10 (left) and F11 (right) - from pins 40 and 30 of connector B, the rear side lights F30 (left) F31 (right) and the no. plate lights F50 and F51from pins 5, 6, 9 of connector D and 38 of connector E. The Body Computer M1 is connected, via the CAN line, to the instrument panel E50 to manage the side lights activation warning light and, if faults are detected in the circuit or the bulb, the lights failure warning light: if there is a fault in the dusk sensor, the general fault warning light.
