DescriptionThe vehicle is prepared for the installationof a radio system. This preparation comprises:radio compartmentradio supply cablesseparate front power and tweeter speakers, located inthe doors;rear speakers, located in the doors;rear subwoofer speakerleads connecting the radio to the speakers;aerial built in the spoiler, amplified by means of a suitableelectronic device and connected to the radio by means of a coaxialcable. The radio circuit is supplied with the keyturned to the ON position, or directly from the battery (which allowstuning settings, security codes, etc. to be stored). The above two lines are protected by twofuses in the junction unit.In addition to the radio there is also asupply with the side lights on to light up the radio controls.A radio, specially designed for this vehicle,is available on request and is fitted during production. There aretwo different types to choose from. Full radio specifications andoperating instructions are given in the OWNER'S HANDBOOK.Several anti-interference suppressors havebeen fitted to the wiring to silence all those electrical consumerswhich could interfere with the radio circuit.A multi-pole cable connecting the radioto the CD player, located in the boot, may be fitted on request.
Functional description The radio P20 is supplied directly(pins 4 and 7 of connector A) by the battery via the line for fuse F10 ofthe junction unit B1 and maxifuse J/B1 of B99 . It receives a supply when the ignition isswitched on (INT) (pin 3 of connector A) via the line for fuse F1 ofthe junction unit B1 . With the side lights switched on, the supplyreaches pin 6 of connector A by means of the line coming from theswitch for the steering column switch unit H5 , protectedby fuse F4 of the additional fuse box B98B ; the radiocontrols are therefore lit up when the side lights are switchedon. Pin 8 of connector A, on the other hand,is earthed ( C20 ). Pin 5 of connector A is connected to thecontrol unit P22 which controls the aerial built into thespoiler. The control unit P22 is then connected to the radio bymeans of the specific aerial lead. Connector B sends out cables carryingsignals to the speakers:pins 5 and 6 to the left front speakers P35 and P45 ;pins 3 and 4 to the right front loudspeakers P36 and P46 ;pins 7 and 8 to the left rear speakers P30 and P40 ,and to the subwoofer P92 ;pins 1 and 2 to the right rear speakers P31 and P41 ,and to the subwoofer P92 ; The subwoofer P92 has its own supplywhich arrives directly from the line protected by fuse F8 ofthe junction unit B1 , and is connected to pin 5 of connectorA of P20 . The connecting cable to the CD player P75 comesout of connector C of P20 .

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer, electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour:a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery;a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For more details 3238420See subassembly5530 CURRENT GENERATOR . 768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360').Depending on the voltage values measured, which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows: If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery ( 32384295530B10battery - r+r ). If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery ( 32384305530B14battery - recharge ). If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient. If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water, taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768
