DescriptionThe front interior light includes two courtesylights with two control switches. With the left switch (A) it is possibleto select the following two operating modes:centre position: both lights come on for a timed periodwhen the doors are openedleft-hand position: both lights are off all the time;right-hand position: both lights are on all the time. The right-hand switch turns on onlyone of the lights:left-hand position: left-hand light always on;right-hand position: right-hand light always on;central position: both lights always off. Both rear interior lights containa courtesy light that operates in different modes according to theposition of the lens, which operates an internal switch.neutral position: light comes on for a timed period whenthe doors are opened;positioned to one side: light always off;positioned to the other side: lights always on.The courtesy light timing is controlledaccording to a logic managed by the integrated services controlunit, on the left under the dashboard, which can be summarized asfollows. When any of the four doors is opened, all front and rear courtesy lights are operated for a timed period.timed period of 7 seconds when the locks are unlockedusing the key or the remote control;timed period of 7 seconds when a previously-opened dooris reclosed; timing is suspended when the key is turned to MAR (thisfunction allows the driver to enter the car and insert the key inthe ignition)timed interval of 3 minutes if one of the doors is leftopen (this function prevents the battery going flat if the car isleft with a door open)When one of the other doors is opened, thecurrent timer count is reset to zero. The courtesy light circuit is protectedby a special junction unit fuse. two fuses also protect the integratedservices control unit direct and ignition-operated supply lines.
Functional description The supply for the front ( G10 ) andrear ( G25 and G26 ) courtesy lights arrives directlyfrom the battery. (maxifuse J/B1 of B5 up to 2/99or of B99 from 2/99 ) through fuse F10 of the junctionunit B1 . They are switched on via a direct earthsignal (permanently activated) or a signal coming from the integratedservices control unit M40 . The supply for the control unit M40 iscontrolled by the ignition (INT) by the line for fuse F1 ofthe junction unit B1 (pin 7 of connector B) and directlyfrom the battery. (maxifuse J/B2 of B5 up to 2/99or of B99 from 2/99) through fuse F8 of the junctionunit B1 (pin 8 of connector B). The control unit sends a timed signalaccording to the door unlocking and door open signals which arrive:at pin 15 of connector C: unlocking from the receiverfor the remote control M35 3234040SeeE3040CENTRAL LOCKING.)at pin 16 of connector B: unlocking of the lock of oneof the front doors N50 and N51 3234040SeeE3040CENTRAL LOCKING.)at pins 3 and 2 of connector B: opening of one of thefront doors N50 and N51 (left and right respectively);at pins 7 and 13 of connector C: opening of one of therear doors N55 and N56 (left and right respectively); Timed earth signals leave pins 1 and 3 ofconnector C of the control unit M40 which operate the frontand rear courtesy lights.

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer, electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour:a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery;a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For more details 3238420See subassembly5530 CURRENT GENERATOR . 768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360').Depending on the voltage values measured, which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows: If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery ( 32384295530B10battery - r+r ). If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery ( 32384305530B14battery - recharge ). If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient. If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water, taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768
