The ignition and recharging circuit comprises the battery, starter motor and alternator. The (12V) lead battery requires very little maintenance. When the ignition key is turned as far as it will go (D), the motor windings are supplied to generate the electromagnetic forces that are used to turn the starter motor pinion. This simultaneously activates the electromagnet that operates the mechanism that causes the pinion to mesh with the flywheel ring gear and thus turn the crankshaft. On versions with automatic transmission, the enablement for the starter motor is supplied by the actual gearbox control. The alternator recharges the battery during normal engine rotation. The alternator shaft (rotor) is turned by the crankshaft via a belt: a magnetic field is produced at the fixed winding (stator) which creates an alternating current.A diode bridge at the back of the alternator allows the alternating current to be transfored into a direct current that recharges the battery.A voltage governor, also built into the alternator, maintains the power supply at a constant voltage (14 V) throughout the load variation and engine speed ranges.
The battery A001 supplies the engine compartment junction unit B001 and the maxi-fuse box B006 at connector A. This last connection also reaches pin 30 of connector A of the starter motor M020 and from there pin B= of connector A of the alternator A010.Pin 50 of connector B of A020 and D+ of connector B of A010 are connected to pins 2 and 3 of connector C of B001 respectively. Only the first of the two lines is protected by fuse F08.The control unit M001 (pins 5 and 4 connector D) supplies the Body computer node M001 (pins 2 and 1 connector A) through two lines protected by fuses MF05 and MF04 (respectively). The ignition switch H001 (pins 1, 2, 3) is connected to the Body computer node M001 (pin 4 connector G, pin 5 connector D and pin 6 connector G respectively). The body computer M001 is still connected:- from pin 6 of connector G, to control unit B001 (pin 9 connector F);- from pin 6 of connector D, supplies, through a line protected by fuse F14, the instrument panel E050 (pin 13) and the milometer and warning lights control unit M140 (pin 4).The Body computer node M001 (pins 8 and 10 connector D), the instrument panel E050 (pins 6 and 12), the milometer and warning lights control unit M140 (pins 2 and 5) and the engine compartment junction unit B001 (pins 11 and 12 connector F) communicate with one another via the CAN line. The anti-interference filter P087 is connected:- at pin 1, with pin 2 of connector B of the maxi-fuse box B006;- at pin 2, with connector A of earth C011 and with pin 19 of connector F of B001.Lastly, pin A5 of the automatic transmission solenoid valve assembly L050 is connected to pin 15 of connector F of the engine compartment junction unit B001, whilst pin A4 is connected to connector A of the left front earth C010.
