DESCRIPTION - POWER SUPPLY - Alfa Romeo 159 2.2 JTS Da 01/06

The electrical system is designed to increase the car''s safety level and prevent the possibility of fires and other consequences of electrical malfunctions. State-of-the-art connectors have been introduced to rule out the possibility of many connection defects.Power is distributed via the junction units and/ or fuses boxes. These are connected to control elements (relays and static actuators) to ensure maximum electrical protection and minimum wiring complexity.All wiring looms have been made modular (sub-assembly composition) by changing the way functions are distributed inside the connectors and replacing welds with short-circuiting joints.The main safety solutions adopted are as follows:- power supplies protected by maxi fuses to cut off the electrical system in the event of a short circuit (see detail below);- the only cables not fitted with maxi fuses (starter motor and alternator) are armoured and located in protected areas. In the event of an emergency - operation of the inertia switch - these cables are disconnected by an automatic device located in the battery fuse box- the layout of the whole system is optimised to reduce the risk of damage in the event of faults or accidents;- wiring installation has been optimised to reduced incorrect positioning and noise due to vibrations- all wires offer high resistance to abrasion;- the wires in the engine are specially designed to be resistant to high temperatures and are protected by outer casings or piping;- the wires in the passenger compartment are protected by corrugated pipes and napped tape to reduce noise levels;- the main connections come with secondary lock terminals and lever locks or "CPA" to prevent terminal deformation.All systems and electrical equipment are supplied by the battery at a voltage of 12V.The battery is recharged by the alternator during engine operationThe main power supply lines are protected by MAXI FUSES housed in the engine compartment junction unit; other shunt fuses are located outside it.768This vehicle is equipped with a starting system known as Smart-Key where the traditional ignition key has been replaced with an electronic key "T.E.G." (Transmitter for Entry and go) combined with an electronic key reader and TEG-Reader radio frequency receiver.Some circuits are continuously supplied, even with the car at a standstill and the TEG extracted, because they are connected directly to the battery.Other circuits are supplied with the TEG inserted in the TEG Reader: the distribution of the power supply to the vehicle (INT and 15/54, INT/A, "AVV", etc.) is managed by the "steering lock node", and takes place in exactly the same way as on models with a traditional key.767The lines that distribute power to the various appliances are represented by wiring diagrams for the various functions and systems.This general diagram shows all the lines as they leave the battery and maxi fuse boxes. Refer to specific diagrams for more details.

All electrical systems and circuits are supplied by battery A1.The main power supply lines are protected by maxi fuses in the maxi fuse box on the battery B99, in particular:- CVM: engine compartment junction unit B1 power supply - connector X;- CPL: junction unit under the dashboard B2 power supply - to pin A of connector C;- CPR : glowplugs control unit power supply (for Diesel engines only)The B99 fuse box includes the automatic battery disconnection device which, in emergencies, cuts off the power supply to the engine starting/ recharging cable.For Diesel engines only, there is an additional fuse box B98, next to the maxi fuse box on the battery (on one side of the battery itself), equipped with two MIDI maxi fuses which supply the additional heater.The following, amongst others, are supplied by the engine compartment junction unit B1:- the steering lock node M89 (which "replaces" the ignition switch), fuse F3;- the junction unit under the dashboard B2 and the one in the luggage compartment B45 fuse F1.The distribution of the power supply to the vehicle (INT ignition-operated, 15/54, INT/A, "AVV", etc.) is managed by the steering lock control unit, and takes place in exactly the same way as on models with a traditional key.The power supply for the M89 control unit reaches pin C1 of M89 from the line protected by fuse F3 of the engine compartment junction unit B1 whilst pin A4 of M89 is earthed.The TEG inserted status is sent by the TEG Reader H3 via the CAN - pins 3 and 8. The same signal is sent, redundantly, to the steering lock node M89, from pin 2 and the latter, in turn, forwards it via the CAN.With the TEG inserted, numerous ignition-operated circuits and services are supplied (lines INT and 15/54): lines leaving pins A1 and B1 of M89.With the TEG inserted, without starting up (INT/A line): other circuits and services are supplied: from pins B3 and C8 of M89.
