Description - ELECTRIC STEERING - Fiat PANDA 1.2 8v

The servo assistance is ensured by an electric motor located in the area of the dashboard which transfers the torque produced directly to a toothed wheel coaxial to the steering column.The input torque supplied by the driver is "read" by a mechanical sensor that is extremely sensitive and precise.The driver can chose between two driving programmes (City and Normal) that can be selected using the button in the dashboard. The first ensures maximum comfort during parking manoeuvres, with minimum effort on the steering wheel. The second provides an average peformance whilst parking but allows excellent progressiveness if steering wheel effort, even at low speeds, especially in poor road grip conditions. Both programmes provide assistance that is variable depending on the speed of the vehicle (gradual power assistance) without a compromise between peformance when parking and the quality of steering control whilst driving.The electronic control unit also contains different sets of City/Normal programmes in its memory which are automatically selected depending on the engine type (the information is communicated by the body computer). The servo assistance can be adapted to the weight of the vehicleThe power supply to the electric steering control unit is protected by specific fuses housed inside the engine compartment junction unit.

Operational description - ELECTRIC STEERING - Fiat PANDA 1.2 8v

The electric steering control unit M086 receives a power supply directly from the battery, at connector A pin A, through the line protected by fuse F05. It is connected directly to the battery earth A001 connector C from pin B of the same connector.It receives an ignition-operated supply from the line protected by fuse F24 at pin 1 connector B.The electric steering control unit M086 is connected, from pins 2, 3, 7, 8 connector B, via the CAN, to the body computer node M001. .The following signals are acquired by the electric steering control unit M086:vehicle speed: the signal is taken via the C CAN and is used by the control unit to strengthen or provide power assistance for the steering depending on the vheicle speed;engine ignition: the signal is supplied by the alternator (signal D+) to confirm that the engine has been started;engagement of City function: the signal is sent by the special switch housed in the control unit H090 ;The electric steering control unit M086 controls the switching on of the "system failure" warning light housed in the instrument panel E050, sending the command, via the C CAN, to the body computer node M001; the command is then sent, via the B CAN, from the body computer node to the instrument panel E050.The electric steering control unit is connected, from pin 4 connector B, to the diagnostic socket R010.767Earth C020 is secured to the passenger compartment floor and is positioned near the right front wheel arch (footwell area).
