DescriptionIn the case of poor visibility, it is possibleto activate demisting of the rear windscreen and the door mirrors. The heating resistances for thesecomponents absorb a considerable amount of energy and they are thereforechecked and deactivated after a certain period: the defrosting istimed, according to the following logic, managed by the Body Computer:ignition ON (INT/A);activation signal from the relevant button, located onthe climate control system control panel. In these circumstances the resistances remainsupplied for a maximum of 20 minutes, then the power supply is cutoff. The power supply is also cut offunder the following conditions:ignition in OFF positiondeactivation signal from the relevant button;battery voltage below 8.5 Vafter the first 10 minutes operation, if the engine speedis below 1000 rpm. When the demister is on, a warning lighton the climate control system controls is activated. The climate control system ECU strategyis also operational in the following situations:'MAX-DEF' command from the climate control: the defrostingfunction is activated using the logic described previously (deactivatingthe MAX-DEF control only causes the heated rear windscreen to beswitched off if the command to turn it on came from the MAX-DEF;if, on the other hand, the command came from the heated rear windscreenbutton, it remains on;automatic defrosting at low outside temperatures: theheated rear windscreen is switched on automatically if the outsidetemperature, detected by the climate control system control unitvia the special sensor, is below 3 °C.The rearscreen demisting circuit is controlledby the heated rear windscreen relay and protected by a special fuselocated in the junction unit under the dashboard. This circuit iscontrolled via the strategy described above directly from the BodyComputer. The door mirror demisting circuit for isprotected by another fuse in the underfacia control unit and iscontrolled by the door control unit in accordance with a strategytransmitted via the CAN network from the Body Computer.
Functional description The heated rear windscreen relay T11,located in the junction unit under the dashboard B2, controls theengagement of the heated rear windscreen P55 demisting function throughthe line protected by fuse F40 The supply for the coil for relay T11 is'controlled by the ignition' (INT/A) and is energized by an earthsignal coming from the Body Computer M1 - pin 6 of connectorF; this signal is sent according to the complex control logic describedpreviously and, in particular, when a signal arrives - at pin 32of connector G of M11 - from the heated rear windscreen buttonpressed or MAX-DEF function on; This signal comes from the climate controlsystem control unit M70 which receives the feedback signal frompin 21 of connector H of M1 for switching on the LED. Activation of door mirror demister coils P60 and P61 is controlled by driver side door control unit M66 andpassenger door control unit M67 , connected via the CAN lineto Body Computer M1 . Control units M66 and M67 aresupplied at pin 11 of connector D - from a line protected by fuseF32 of underfacia control unit B2 On the basis of the complex strategy describedpreviously, the demister acivation control is sent via the CAN networkalso to the two door control units that control the coils in the mirrors P60 and P61 - from pins 7 and 9 of connector D of M66 and M67.
