DescriptionThis device allows maximum ease of manoeuvring during parking;with reverse gear engaged, it indicates if the driver is approachingan obstacle that could be outside his field of vision, as illustratedin the diagram below. The system operates in accordance with theultrasound 'sonar' principle: four ultrasound transducers are locatedin the rear bumper. They send signals to a control unit, which processesthis information and determines the distance of possible obstacles.A loudspeaker controlled by the controlunit emits an intermittent tone, proportional to the distance ofthe obstacle detected. The control unit is activated when reversegear is engaged: under these conditions it energizes the transducersand sends them a signal request, and receives response signals from them. The control unit emits a signal with intermittenttone: the frequency of this sound increases as the bumper comesclose to an obstacle: when the calculated distance falls below 25cm, the sound becomes acute and constant. If the distance measured from the obstacleincreases, or if the driver disengages reverse gear, the sound stops. If the distance measured from the obstacle remains constant, the soundceases after about 3 seconds. The system is supplied by the reversing lights circuit 2427919SeeE2022REVERSING LIGHTS . The parking sensor control unit comes witha self-diagnostic function. when a tester (Examiner or other instrument)is connected to the control unit, self-diagnostic data can be read(parameters, errors) or active testing can be carried out.
Functional description The parking sensor control unit M84 is supplied - pin 13 -by the reversing lights circuit, via the switch for the reversinglights I20, with an ignition-controlled supply (INT/A) from theline for fuse F31 of the junction unit under the dashboard B2. Whenreverse gear is engaged, the switch closes and sends the supplydirectly via the control unit B2 - pin 7 connector D.The connectors for the four parkingsensors K97 are all connected to the control unit M84:pin 1 of M84 sends the reference supply to the sensors;pin 6 of M84 sends the reference earth to the sensors;pin 5 of M84 is connected to sensor K97A;pin 2 of M84 is connected to sensor K97B;pin 3 of M84 is connected to sensor K97C;pin 4 of M84 is connected to sensor K97D. Pin 12 is earthed while pins 2 and 10 areconnected to parking sensor buzzer P44. Pin 14 receives an inhibition signal ifa trailer is connected via coupling D732427931SeeE2050TRAILER WIRING . Self-diagnostic data can be read by connectingthe unit to connector C of Body Computer M1 - pin 13; signalsarrive from pin 20 of control unit M84 via the special diagnosticline SeeE8010 DIAGNOSTIC MULTIPLE CONNECTOR .
