DESCRIPTION - WINDSCREEN WASH/WIPE - Alfa Romeo 159 2.4 JTD 20V Da 01/06
The windscreen wash/wipe system is activated by the lever located on the right of the steering wheel, with the following functions: there are five possible positions for the lever, turning it upwards, corresponding to:- windscreen wiper off (stationary);- intermittent/automatic operation;- continuous slow operation;- continuous fast operation;- "antipanic" temporary fast operation (unstable position, turning the lever downwards). In the intermittent/automatic operation position three different positions can be selected by turning the ring nut:- on the "LOW" version the different intermittent speeds are switched on (from the slowest to the fastest;- on the "HIGH" version with the rain sensor: the different sensor settings are switched on: the activation of the rain sensor involves a windscreen wiper arm stroke as feedback to confirm that it has been switched on.The frequency of the windscreen wiper strokes is automatically adjusted depending on the amount of water on the windscreen detected by the sensor: the frequency varies continuously from nil (no stroke - windscreen dry) to wiping at the second continuous speed (heavy rain). The windscreen washer function can be activated by pulling the lever toward the steering wheel: this activates the windscreen washer pump: keeping the lever pulled also switched on the windscreen wiper in accordance with a specific control logic: the windscreen wiper is activated at the first speed: when the windscreen washer control is no longer present, an additional stroke is carried out.The screen washer fluid reservoir has a sensor that signals a decrease in the level by means of a special warning light in the instrument panel. The control of the functions described above is carried out by an electronic device inside the steering column switch unit which produces the intermittent function and controls the operation of the windscreen wiper motor and the windscreen washer electric pump. The windscreen wash/wipe circuit is protected by a specific fuse and controlled by the ignition-operated exclusion relay (INT/A) located in the junction unit under the dashboard. The windscreen wiper and the windscreen washer can be activated with the TEG inserted and after starting (INT/A).The correct operation of the rain sensor is controlled by the check function. If the rain sensor is not working properly, the windscreen wiper will operate intermittently whilst the instrument panel display will show the sensor failure.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION - WINDSCREEN WASH/WIPE - Alfa Romeo 159 2.4 JTD 20V Da 01/06
The electronic device inside the steering column switch unit H5 and the controls on the right lever receive a power supply at pin 11 of connector A from the ignition-controlled line (INT/A) of relay T12 protected by fuse F43, both housed in the junction unit under the dashboard B2.Pin 7 of connector A and 9 of connector C of H5 are earthed.According to the function selected, stalk unit H5 (connector A) sends the following control signals to the wiper motor N15:- from pin 8 for fast operation;- from pin 9 for slow and/or intermittent operation,- pin 6, on the other hand, receives the earth signal coming from the motor end of travel cam which stops operation. The windscreen wiper motor N15 is then earthed. The steering column switch unit H5 windscreen washer switch, once activated, sends two signals from pins 10 and 12 of connector A which operate the windscreen washer pump N22 which turns sending the detergent liquid to the windscreen wiper. The rain sensor housed in the mirror P65 receives a supply from the INT line protected by fuse F49 of the junction unit B2 and sends the automatic operating signal to pin 2 of connector A of H5 via the A-BUS serial line of the Body Computer M1 pin 7 of connector D and pin 25 of connector B.The Body Computer M1 is connected via the CAN line to the instrument panel E50 to manage the failure signal if there are problems with the rain sensor. The screen washer fluid level sensor k27 sends an earth signal to the instrument panel E50 - pin 12 of connector D - which lights up the warning light directly.
