DescriptionThe vehicle has two additional fog lamps for use in poor visibilityconditions. The rear foglamps are activated by a buttonon the central console between the seats. A special symbol is lit up when the side lights are on.The circuit for the fog lights is protectedby a special fuse and operated by a special relay, on the righthand side, under the dashboard.A warning light in the panel (rev countermodule) signals that the lamps have been switched on.The foglamps are enabled under thefollowing conditions:the ignition in the ON positionside lights on.In addition, if the side lights are switchedoff, the fog lights are also switched off even if the button ispressed. When the side lights are turned on again, the fog lampscome back on.If the ignition key is switched OFF andthen turned back to the ON position, the operating button must bepressed once again in order to turn the fog lights back on.This control logic is managed by the integratedservices control unit, also on the right hand side, under the dashboard.
Functional description The two front fog lights F15 (left) and F16 (right)are supplied through the fog lights relay J40 by the directline from the battery - maxifuse J/B2 of B5 ) up to2/99 or of B99 from 2/99. - and through the front fog lightfuse B13 up to 2/99 or F1 of the additional fuse box B98A from2/99. The signal which energizes the coil forthe relay J40 arrives from the integrated services controlunit M40 (pin 11 of connector C) according to the enablement logicdescribed. The control unit receives the signal thatthe side lights are on from the switch for the steering column switchunit H5 (pin 8 of connector C) and the supply is controlledby the ignition (INT) from the line for fuse F1 of the junctionunit B1 (pin 7 of connector B). When the engagement signal also arrivesfrom the button H35 (pin 1 of connector B), the control unit M40 sendsthe command to the front fog lights relay J40 . The supply line for the two fog lights alsosends a signal to the rev counter module E15 (pin 14 of connectorB) to light up the "front fog lights on" warning light. The switch H35 is lit up when theside lights are switched on by means of the line coming from theswitch for the steering column switch unit H5 .

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer, electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour:a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery;a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For more details 3238420See subassembly5530 CURRENT GENERATOR . 768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360').Depending on the voltage values measured, which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows: If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery ( 32384295530B10battery - r+r ). If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery ( 32384305530B14battery - recharge ). If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient. If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water, taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768
