DescriptionThe climate control via the heater unit is insufficient when the engine is cold, especially in Diesel engines which are slow to warm up.These engines may optionally be fitted with a supplementary heater system. This remains active from the moment when the engine is turned on until a certain temperature is reached.The system consists of an additional heater, located in the heater unit: the device contains three resistances (PTC).The operation of the resistances is controlled by the climate control unit which either operates only one, two or three of them, providing gradual heating, with a maximum powre of 700 W following a logic which depends on:the temperature of the engine coolant (about 60° ?);the engine speed (which should be above 700 rpm).the battery voltage (which should not go below 12.2 V). The device is controlled by means of two relays; one is located in the engine compartment control unit, the other on the actual heater unit. The supply line is protected by a specific maxifuse, again in the engine bay control unit.
Functional description The relay T8 of the engine compartment junction unit B1 controls the circuit for engaging the first resistance for the additional heater. The relay supply arrives from the line of maxifuse CVM located on the battery, connector B99 , via the line of special fuse F8 of engine bay control unit B1 . The supply for the coil for relay T8 arrives from the line controlled by the ignition (INT/A) protected by fuse F31 of the junction unit under the dashboard B2 . The climate control unit M70 sends the enabling signal for engaging the first resistance O25A from pin 8: this signal energizes relay T8 of control unit B1. The relay J36 controls the engagement of the other two resistances for the additional heater. The supply for relay arrives from the line for maxifuse PTC2, located on the battery, connector B99 . The climate control unit M70 sends a signal for enabling the engagement of the two resistances O25B and O25C from pin 9: this signal energizes the relay J36.
