DescriptionThe climate control system with heaterunit is controlled by means of three knobs in the control panelin the centre of the dashboard:the left knob mechanically controls the mixture flap betweenhot air (red) and cold air (blue);the right knob, mechanically operated via a cable, controlsthe opening of the flaps which regulate the distribution of airflows;the centre knob electrically controls the ventilationof the air at four different speeds: 1, 2, 3 and 4. In position0, the fan is turned off but air still enters due to the dynamiceffect of the car's motion.;when pressed, the left button activates the air recirculationfunction by an electrical command; when the button is pressed, therelevant LED comes on. If the button is released, "dynamic"air flows in from the outsidethe right button switches on the heated rear window; whenthe button is pressed, the relevant LED comes on. ( 3233996SeeE3030HEATED REAR WINDSCREENAND DOOR MIRROR DEFROSTING ). The control switches have ideograms whichare lit up when the side lights are on. For more details, 3232956see DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION:5020HEATERThe system is controlled by means of a specialrelay located in the distributor duct unit. The fan supply lines are protected by aspecial maxifuse and by the fuse which protects other supplies controlledby the ignition. The fan only operates when the ignition is switchedON.
Functional description The relay J35 controls the heater fan circuit. The supply at the relay contact comes fromthe battery through the line for the A/C maxifuse up to 2/99 orof B99 from 2/99, while the coil energizing is controlledby the ignition (INT/A) from the line protected by fuse B10 upto 2/99 or fuse F6 of the additional fuse box B98B from2/99. The relay J35 supplies the controlknob H81 : this controls the fan at the different speeds throughthe regulator O30 . The voltage control system varies accordingto the position of the knob and passes or does not pass throughthe resistors of the regulator O30 determining the four differentvoltage signals for the fan N85 which sends outside or recirculationair to the duct/distributor unit at 4 different speeds. The regulator O30 has a thermal contactwhich protects against dangerous overvoltages. The intake of outside air is controlledby the motor N82 which operates the flap between the twoextreme positions of "dynamic air" and "recirculation". The activation of the motor is controlledby the button located in the controls H80 : this switch receivesa supply controlled by the ignition (INT/A) from the line protectedby the fuse B10 up to 2/99 or fuse F6 of the additionalfuse box B98B from 2/99. and is connected to earth: when the supplyand earth are reversed, the motor's direction of rotation is reversed. With the recirculation switched on, the LED in the button for H80 alsocomes on. The controls unit H80 has ideogramswhich are lit up when the side lights are on by means of the linecoming from the steering column switch unit H5 protectedby fuse B11 up to 2/99 or fuse F4 of the additionalfuse box B98B from 2/99.

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer, electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour:a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery;a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For more details 3238420See subassembly5530 CURRENT GENERATOR . 768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360').Depending on the voltage values measured, which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows: If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery ( 32384295530B10battery - r+r ). If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery ( 32384305530B14battery - recharge ). If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient. If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water, taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768
