Alfa Romeo 166 2.5 V6 fino a 2/99 – ELECTRIC FRONT WINDOWS – – Right hand drive – WIRING DIAGRAM, LOCATION COMPONENTS, OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION – WIRING DIAGRAM, LOCATION COMPONENTS, OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION
DescriptionThe electric front windows are operated automatically, depending on how the switch is pressed:for the driver's window:the operation is manual (the glass goes up/down only when the button is pressed) when the button is held down for 60 to 300 milliseconds;the operation is instead automatic (the glass continues to go up/down to the end of travel, even if the button is released) when the button is held down for over 300 milliseconds;if the button is pressed again during movement of the glass, the glass is stopped instantly;if the button is pressed for less than 60 milliseconds, it is ignored (it is considered to have been knocked accidentally).for the passenger's window:closing is only manual;opening is the same as for the driver's window (automatic). Both windows can only be operated when the ignition is MAR.The control software is located in the electric front windows control unit located under the central console of the facia. The control unit also carries out a series of safety checks:The stopping of the electric windows (switching off the electric supply to the motor) is determined when the glass reaches the end of travel at top or bottom, or if an obstacle blocks the glass. This is regulated by checking the motor current;if there are faults on the electrical circuits, the control unit switches the system off temporarily (for example if the motor control signals are interrupted or if the absorbed current is below the usual values);if there is a fault in the control buttons (short circuit, or buttons jammed in the pressed position), the control unit switches the system off temporarilyThe electric front window control and check circuit is protected by three specific fuses located in the junction unit. The control switch symbols are lit when the key is turned to MAR.
Functional description Control unit M81 controls the operation of the electrically-operated front windows. The power supply to control unit M81 reaches pin 2 of connector E from the line of maxifuse CENTR of B5 , protected by fuse F15 of junction unit B1 . The ignition-activated power supply (INT/A) reaches pin 4 of connector B from the line of relay R1 , protected by fuse F9 : both are contained within junction unit B1 . Pins 3 of connector B and 1 of connector E supply earth, C20 . Switches H44 (electrically-operated window control unit on driver's door) and H50 (passenger side front door electrically-operated window switch) are supplied when the ignition is turned on (INT/A) from a line from fuse F5 , of junction unit B1 , and are connected respectively to earth C15 and C20 . This means they are also lit when the key is turned to MAR. This means they are also lit when the key is turned to MAR. When the switches are operated, they send control signals (positive and negative) to control unit M81:to pins 3 and 4 of connector A from switch H44 , to control the left-hand electrically-operated window;at pins 5 and 6 of connector A from switch H44 ; or pins 1 and 2 of connector C from switch H50 , to control the right electric windowControl unit M81 controls the electrically-operated windows as described previously:pins 1 and 2 (3 and 4 for 2.0 TS versions) of connnector D send commands to the left electric front window motor N60 .pins 3 and 4 (1 and 2 for 2.0 TS versions) of connector D send commands to right electric front motor N61 .When the positive and negative signals are reversed, the motor direction of rotation is also reversed.
