DescriptionThe AntiSlip Regulation function (ASR) controls car traction by cutting in automatically whenever one or both drive wheels begin to slip. The system uses the ABS sensors to detect when one or both side wheels are beginning to slip and reduce power transmitted by the engine in order to adjust to road surface grip. One of two different control systems is activated according to the slip conditions:If the slip affects both drive wheels and is caused by too much transmitted power, the ASR system intervenes to reduce engine power. If only one drive wheel is slipping, the ASR system cuts in to brake the slipping wheel automatically in much the same way as a self-locking differential. The ASR system helps increase car stability and active safety during driving, particularly under the following conditions:Wheel slip on bends, due to the effect of dynamic load changes or excessive acceleration.Too much power transmitted to the wheels, especially when the road surface is slippery.Acceleration over loose, snow-covered or icy road surfaces.Loss of grip on wet ground (acquaplaning)The ASR system comes on automatically whenever the engine is started up.While the car is in motion, the ASR system can be turned on and off by pressing a button on the central console. A warning light on the button comes on when the system is off.ASR system activation is indicated by the flashing of a warning light on the control panel. The Traction Control System (TCS) uses the same sensors as the ASR system and cuts in automatically whenever one or both drive wheels begin to slip. The system is only active at speeds less than 40 km/h and detects wheel slip during conditions of take-off, abrupt acceleration, poor grip and uneven or slippery road surface (snow, gravel etc.,) when it cuts in automatically to brake the slipping drive wheel or wheels. If only one drive wheel is slipping, the TSC system acts in much the same way as a self-locking differential. The TCS system comes on autamatically whenever the engine is turned on.While the the car is in motion, the TCS system can be turned on or off by means of a button on the central console. A warning light on the button comes on when the system is off.TCS system operation is indicated by the flashing of a warning light on the instrument panel.
Functional description The ASR and TCS functions are managed by ABS electronic control unit M50 , which controls pressure in the hydraulic circuit. In addition to all the normal connections of the ABS function (see E7020 ABS), the control unit M50 also controls the ASR and TCS functions: it is connected - pin 27 - using the specific deactivation button, located in the controls panel on the tunnel H36 (pin 11) When the function is deactivated, the control unit turns on the led next to the button (pin 4) from pin 18. Both button and led of H36 are ignition-operated (INT/A) from a line protected by fuse F5 of junction unit B1 . Simultaneously, control unit M50 sends a signal (pin 22) to instrument E50 (pin 18 connector C), which turns on the 'ASR/TCS' warning light (which also indicates faults in the VDC circuit; see E7022) to indicate the presence of faults in the system (SELF-DIAGNOSIS). When faults are present, the led on the control button does not come on. The warning light is supplied via pin 15 connector A of instrument E50 via the INT/A line protected by fuse F1 of control unit B1 . Signals from control unit M50 present at pins 24 and 40 are shared with the steering sensor K58 (see E7022). Functional descriptionThe antislip regulation function (ASR and TCS) acts on ABS electronic control unit M50 which controls pressure in the hydraulic circuit, and also engine management unit M10, by altering drive torque as required. Both control units are connected via a CAN line:from pin 24 of M50 to pin 29 of connector A of M10 ;from pin 40 of M50 to pin 12 of connector A of M10 .Functional descriptionThe connection between the ABS electronic control unit M50 and the engine management control unit M10 is via the specific CAN line;from pin 24 of M50 to pin 9 of connector A of M10 ;from pin 40 of M50 to pin 10 of connector A of M10 .Functional description Both control units M50 and M10 are not connected directly but via EAT control unit M55 . Pins 24 and 40 of control unit M50 are connected via a CAN line to pins 82 and 83 of automatic transmission control unit M55 . The engine management control unit is connected via pins 85 and 86 to the engine control unit at pins 12 and 29 respectively.
