DescriptionA device allows the headlamp beam to be adjusted, directly fromthe driver's seat, in accordance with the load. The headlamps arethus always aligned quickly and correctly. The adjustment device consists of a motormounted on each of the two headlamps which tilts them as appropriate, lowering the light beam if the car is heavily laden, and raisingit if the load decreases.A specific knob on the dashboardselects the four positions indicated:position 0 - one or two persons on the front seats, fullfuel tank, car fully equipped and in running order;position 1 - five persons;position 2 - five persons with luggage compartment full(about 50 kg);position 3 - driver and 300 kg load, all stowed in boot. The adjustment button is on the left ofthe actual instruments, together with the button for zeroing themileometer and the instrument lighting dimmer switch; The controlswitches have symbols which are lit up when the side lights areon. The device is enabled only when the dippedbeam headlamps are on.The headlamp adjustment circuit is protectedby the same fuses as the dipped beam headlamps circuit, locatedin the junction unit.
Functional description The headlamp alignment device in H10 is supplied at pin3 by a line coming from the circuit for the dipped beam headlamps, protected by fuse F5 of the junction unit B1 ; thisline only supplies voltage to the regulator when the dipped beamheadlamps are switched on. ( 3233782SeeE2011DIPPED HEADLAMPS )this line provides voltage to the regulator only when the dippedbeams are on. Pin 4 of device H10 is earthed, whilstpin 2 sends the signal to adjust the motors N30 (left) and N31 (right),through a resistive divider which alters the output voltage dependingon which of the four positions has been selected. Motors N30 and N31 containa transducer that establishes actual motor travel on the basis ofthe voltage of an adjustment signal received by pin 2 from device H10 .The motors are supplied through pins 3 from the line (part of the dippedbeam circuit) that supplies device H10 , while pins 1 areearthed. The headlamp alignment device H10 islit up (at pin 1) when the side lights are switched on by meansof the line coming from the switch for the steering column switchunit H5 and protected by the controls illumination fuse B11 up to2/99 or fuse F4 of the additional fuse box B98B from2/99.

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer, electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour:a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery;a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For more details 3238420See subassembly5530 CURRENT GENERATOR . 768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360').Depending on the voltage values measured, which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows: If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery ( 32384295530B10battery - r+r ). If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery ( 32384305530B14battery - recharge ). If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient. If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water, taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768
