DescriptionThe side lights come on when the selector on the left side of the facia is turned to the first position and only work with the key turned to MAR.They may also be turned on by turning the selector anticlockwise - parking position. In this case, activation is independent of ignition switch position.Under these conditions, if the turn signal lever is in the right or left selection position, the parking lights are turned on only on the selected side.Turning on the side lights also turns on the number plate lights and numerous other interior lights for passenger compartment lighting and instrument & control lighting (these lines are described and illustrated in the diagrams for the components to which they refer). The circuit is protected by two fuses, one for the right-hand lights, one for the left-hand lights.A warning light on the instrument panel indicates that the side lights have been turned on.Operation of the side lights and number plate lights is monitored by the exterior light check device. The following faults may occur:blown bulbbulb s.c. to earth or positiveA special light failure warning light on the dashboard comes on for all other faults in the various circuits. This warning light comes on for about 6 seconds when the ignition key is turned to MAR, to indicate it is working properly, then it goes off.
Functional description The side lights and parking lights are controlled by the electronic Check device M45, that receives control signals from the switches and controls the bulbs while also checking the various lines. The supply for the Check device M45 arrives directly from the battery. (maxifuse CENTR of B5 ) to pins 1 and 6 of connector C, via fuse F11 of junction unit B1 . An ignition-operated power supply (INT/A) reaches pin 9 of connector C through fuse F1 of junction unit B1 : pin 7 of connector C is earthed. The side lights switch for the exterior lights control H6 receives a go-ahead from pin 5 of connector A; when the lights are on, it sends a command to pin 4 of connector A of M45 . In response to this signal, the Check device M45 controls the supply for the front side lights F10 (left) and F11 (right) from pins 6 and 4 of connector D; for the rear lights F30 and F35 (left) F31 and F36 (right) from pins 11, 2, 3, 12 of connector E; and, lastly, for the number plate lights F50 and F51 from pins 1 and 6 of connector E. At the same time the 'side lights on' warning light on the instrument panel E50 , pin 5 of connector C, is turned on from pin 9 of connector B, while pin 15 of connector A supplies the ignition-controlled supply to the panel, through fuse F1 of the junction unit B1 . The parking lights switch of the exterior lights control H6 receives enablement from pin 13 of connector A and sends the command to pin 9 of connector A of M45 . In response to this signal, the Check device M45 controls the supply to the side lights as described above. When the parking lights are switched on, a control is send from pin 12 of connector B to the stalk unit H5 . If from the stalk unit H5 a signal reaches pins 4 and 5 of connector B indicating the selection of the right or left indicators, the Check device M45 controls the supply of the side lights only on the selected side. The device M45 checks the efficiency of the bulbs and their connections: if faults are detected in the circuit, the 'lights fault' warning light on the instrument panel E50 , pin 7 of connector C, is lit from pin 6 of connector A, while pin 15 of connector A supplies an ignition-operated power supply to the panel through fuse F1 of the junction unit B1 . The exterior lights control H6 is illuminated when the ignition is on (INT/A), through the line of fuse F15 to the fuse and relay unit B1 .
