DescriptionThe ignition and recharging circuit comprises a battery, starter motor and alternator. The battery (12V) is low maintenance lead type. The starter motor consists of a direct current motor supplied by the battery and an excitation solenoid. When the ignition key is turned to the extreme postion (AVV) the solenoid is excited and operates the flywheel ring gear pinion engagement mechanism. The engine windings are supplied by the contacts operated by the solenoid to generate electromagnetic forces that turn the motor pinion to cause the crankshaft to revolve. The alternator recharges the battery during normal engine rotation. The alternator shaft (rotor) is turned by the crankshaft by means of a belt. When supplied with an excitation current, the rotor sets up a magnetic field that induces an alternating current in the fixed coil (stator).A diode rectifying bridge located on the back of the alternator transforms the alternating current into a direct current, which is sent to recharge the battery.A voltage regulator, also built into the alternator, maintains a constant voltage supply (about 14V) throughout the load and engine speed ranges.
Functional description Engine start-up via starter motor A20 is controlled by start-up enablement relay J5. The relay is supplied from the battery via terminal unit A5 and start-up enablement MAXIFUSE B9. Ignition switch H1 receives battery power via the line of maxifuse ACC of B5 . When ignition switch H1 is turned to the extreme position (AVV), relay J5 is excited and supplies the solenoid winding (pin 50) of starter motor A20 . Pin 30 of A20 , the actual starter motor, is supplied with voltage directly from the battery via terminal unit A5 . A start-up signal - pin 50 of H1 is also directed to instrument panel E50 - pin 13 of connector A - whose internal software uses the information to set the system to 'engine running' status.( 3309717SeeE4010INSTRUMENT PANEL ). The start-up signal also reaches relay R1 , which supplies numerous ignition-operated lines (INT/A).( 3309064SeeE1010SUPPLY ). The direct current generated by the alternator A10 (pin B+) is sent to the battery A1 , passing through motor A20 . When the alternator is not turning, i.e. not charging the battery, an earth signal is sent from pin D+ to instrument panel E50 - pin 7 of connector A. Instrument panel E50 ingition-operated power supply (INT/A) passes through fuse F1 of junction unit B1 to pin 15 of connector C. When the above signal reaches the panel, the generator warning light comes on. When the engine has been started up this signal becomes 12 V and the warning light goes out.
