DescriptionThe module includeselectronic speedometermilometer and trip meter / outside temperature gauge;and a series of warning lights. The speedometer signal comes from the ABScontrol unit; there are three 'repeater' outputs of the signal forother systems; only two are used for the electronic fuel injectionand climate control system. The gauge display is produced by anelectronic circuit inside the module. The milometer consists of an LCD which simultaneouslydisplays the total and trip mileage. A special button zeros the trip meter andallows the outside temperature to be displayed. For greater detail, see 3232967Characteristicof working principle5560INSTRUMENT PANEL . The outside temperature reading comes fromthe climate control unit 3232958Characteristic of working principle5040AIR CONDITIONING CASINGAND COMPONENTS . The button is on the left of the instruments, together with the instrument light adjustment button and the headlampalignment control. The following warning lights arecontained in this module:seat beltsbrake pad wearmaximum catalytic converter temperature (preparation)heater plugspassenger Air Bag disablingwater in diesel filterIn a version available in some markets, there is also a 'seat belts fastened' warning light; the warninglight goes out when the driver's seat buckle is inserted in itsfastening. The brake pad warning light comes on forabout 4 seconds, when the ignition is switched ON, to check thatthey are working properly, then it goes out. The electronic circuits inside the modulealso manage the test function for the warning lights of all themodules: 3234386SeeE4040INSTRUMENT WARNING LIGHTS CHECK . The operation of the warning lights whichare not included in other functions is illustrated; the others aredescribed and illustrated in the diagrams dealing with the componentsto which they refer. The speedometer operates when the ignitionis switched ON. In the 'night' conditions (side lights on),the brightness can be adjusted to three levels by an external button. 3233955SeeE2530INSTRUMENT LIGHTING
Functional description The supply to the speedometer module E10 reachespin 9 of connector A directly from the battery (maxifuse J/B1of B5 ),via fuse F10 of the junction unit B1 ; the supply controlledby the ignition (INT) reaches pin 10 of connector A from the lineprotected by fuse B11 .

Follow these precautions.769On batteries with an opticam hydrometer, electrolyte level and battery charge status can be monitored qualitativelyby examining the indicator colour:a light, bright colour indicates low electrolytelevel: top up with distilled water;a dark colour without a green area in thecentre indicates that the electrolyte level is correct but chargeis low: recharge the battery;a dark colour with a green area in themiddle indicates that both electrolyte level and charge status arecorrect: no action is necessary. For more details 3238420See subassembly5530 CURRENT GENERATOR . 768Proceed as follows.Check the battery voltage without loadusing the test device recommended by the Service outlets (e.g. 'MICRO360').Depending on the voltage values measured, which define the state of charge of the battery, proceed as follows: If the voltage without load is less than12.10 V, replace the battery ( 32384295530B10battery - r+r ). If the voltage without load is over 12.10V but less than 12.50 V, recharge the battery ( 32384305530B14battery - recharge ). If the voltage without load is over 12.50V, the battery is efficient. If necessary, top up the electrolyte asfollows.Carefully remove the cap strip.Top up with distilled and deionized water, taking care not to allow electrolyte to splash out.768
